Is Civilization: Beyond Earth any good?

I like the look of this. Good ratings too. Unfortunately the price is a little steep right now. Hope it gets discounted a little in the year end Steam sale.

Thanks for the article, sire!

I got it, started playing it.
It's a bit "beyond" me right now... I haven't touched a "CIV" game since way back when, but it looks good.
Just a bit MUCH for someone NEW to the game series.

What what what?! You've had the game for how long now? Dude, just start playing it. It'll instantly eat up your available time and it will be worth every second.
Will do so today. :)

I usually just end up jamming TF2 since its easy to pick up / drop. It does mean I've got AAA titles sitting untouched though. :o

Coming off Civ 5, is anyone else as deeply disappointed by this game as I am? It feels so shallow and boring. I'm 250 turns into my first game and there is literally nothing of interest I can tell you thus far.

The gameplay is boring, the factions are boring and the entire thing is just so lacking in soul. Civ 5 was fun and I loved playing it and interacting with the other factions. Beyond Earth has so far just been me pressing the End Turn button while occasionally listening to a faction leader berate or praise me in some weird accent.

Overall it just feels like such a massive step back for the Civilization series.

When Civ 5 was released, the complaints were similar. It took two expansions and many patches to make the game the excellent piece of 1's and 0's that it is today. I unfortunately expect this to be the case for Beyond Earth too if it's as bad as you say it is. I have been looking forward to this game, but I think I may wait for a special and the first expansion before picking it up.

The reviews seem quite good though...

The thing is it's not a bad game by any means. When you look at all the parts individually it's actually very good. It just doesn't do anything for me. There's none of that 'just one more turn' magic that the previous Civ games had. Overall it just seems so bland and uninspired. I don't really know how they went from Civ 5 to this.

But maybe you're right and I should check it out again after the first expansion hits. I only started playing Civ5 after the first expansion and I remember most people only started praising it around that time too.

It might be worthwhile waiting for the first expansion. However, I can understand the disappointment having bought a game and then waiting for two years before it's what you expected *cough* Diablo 3 *cough*.
