Issues with my ping

For the past Month I've been getting a ping of about 500 I have a mweb 1mb uncapped account. Would this problem be with mweb or would it be my adsl line?

Mweb imo do you have an uncapped unshaped mweb account? If so then you shouldn't be getting that high ping.

Do a cmd prompt ping test with your mweb account and another one if you have. That way you can see if it's account related or line related.

I'd suggest doing a trace route to the location you're receiving the high ping from. With this, one should be able to tell where the additional latency is between hops.

Been having the same issue the last month or so.. took Telkom around 3 weeks to tell me something i already know. All came down to the exchange being congested.

It still hasn't been fixed but what else is there to do? I mean if i phone they tell me to log a fault which i've already done multiple times. So all that's left is to wait :(

Yeah, but you need to be bothering them constantly, otherwise they will just de-prioritize the shit out of your fault. That's how Telkom works- their service delivery is soooo bad.

Anyway, back on topic though, the easiest way to test if its your line or account, is doing what is already mentioned in this thread.

1) Do pings and traceroutes to a local and international IP with your MWEB account.
2) Do the same with another account.

If the results are the same, then obviously it's your line. Typically, when you're having high latency, it's not account related, unless your ISP is having routing issues, which is not the case most of the time.

It's definitely your line dude. A few reasons could include copper degradation, DSLAM or exchange congestion, or just a software fail on Telkom equipment.
