Ivy Bridge Pricing revealed

The Joker

Thread Killer MKII
Ivy Bridge micro-architecture, planned for the second quarter 2012, will bring a number of enhancements to CPU and graphics portions of the chip. The CPU cores will feature up to 15%, sometimes even higher performance due to micro-architecture improvements and 100 MHz - 300 MHz higher Turbo Boost frequencies. HD 4000 and HD 2500 graphics will add support for DirectX 11, and it will be considerably faster than current HD 3000 and HD 2000 on-chip graphics. What's more important, better performing Ivy Bridge CPUs will come with 20% lower Thermal Design Power. It's great that upcoming CPUs will run cooler and faster, but at what price? Based on pricing information, that we've seen, desktop Ivy Bridge SKUs will have prices, in most cases identical to Sandy Bridge predecessors.

Similar to current Sandy Bridge products, Ivy Bridge Core i5s will feature 4 CPU cores with 6 MB of last level cache. The only exception to this is a dual-core i5-3470T with 3 MB L3 cache. The fastest i5 chip will be i5-3570K, a successor to Core i5-2500K. This CPU will come with $225 price sticker. Other i5-35xx series products, namely Core i5-3550, i5-3550S and i5-3570T, will cost $205, or $20 cheaper than the i5-3570K. i5-34xx processors will be the most affordable from i5 family. There will be three of them available in Q2 2012 at $184: Core i5-3450, i5-3450S and i5-3470T.

Model Cores Threads Frequency Turbo L3cache TDP Price
Core i5-3450 4 4 3.1 GHz 3.5 GHz 6 MB 77 Watt $184
Core i5-3450S 4 4 2.8 GHz 3.5 GHz 6 MB 65 Watt $184
Core i5-3470T 2 4 2.9 GHz 3.6 GHz 3 MB 35 Watt $184
Core i5-3550 4 4 3.3 GHz 3.7 GHz 6 MB 77 Watt $205
Core i5-3550S 4 4 3 GHz 3.7 GHz 6 MB 65 Watt $205
Core i5-3570K 4 4 3.4 GHz 3.8 GHz 6 MB 77 Watt $225
Core i5-3570T 4 4 2.3 GHz 3.3 GHz 6 MB 45 Watt $205
Core i7-3770 4 8 3.4 GHz 3.9 GHz 8 MB 77 Watt $294
Core i7-3770K 4 8 3.5 GHz 3.9 GHz 8 MB 77 Watt $332
Core i7-3770S 4 8 3.1 GHz 3.9 GHz 8 MB 65 Watt $294
Core i7-3770T 4 8 2.5 GHz 3.7 GHz 8 MB 45 Watt $294

Really great prices, if they don't end up changing, which is a real possibility :(

Hmmmm maybe I should look at upgrading my i7 950 early in the new year....
Then again, is it really worth it??

My mom is going to the US in Feb so ill stick it out till then and get her to bring m one over :D I skipped the sandy upgrade so im still stuck with my I 7 920 D0 @ 3.8Ghz.

@ Jok3r

Any idea behind the T , S and K extensions on the cpu`s? Wat would be the best bang for buck to go for?

Any idea behind the T , S and K extensions on the cpu`s? Wat would be the best bang for buck to go for?

Intel i7-3770K CPU Would be the fastest I7
Intel i5-3570K CPU Would be the fastest I5

So the K chips will still be top of the line.

As for the T,S,K extensions, I think it refers to the TDP.

Price wise, yeah expect a change closer to launch.

Best bang for buck by the looks of it would be the Intel i5-3570K.
I 1st want to see benchmarks before deciding though, if its a 15% increase in performance I wouldn't bother with Ivy Bridge.

But my question is, will it be worth upping my i7 950 to Ivy Bridge next year, bearing in mind that I will need to buy a new board as well.... thus far the 950 is giving me descent performance and I cant complain but I just want to be more future proof...

Well going from 1366 I would say yes its a worthwhile upgrade for you.
The architecture behind Sandy bridge and Ivy bridge is much much better than good old 1366. I'd say seeing as Sandy bridge is already around 20% faster than 1366, and Ivy bridge said to be 15% faster than Sandy bridge, you're looking at an over all increase of 35-40%.

Yeah its worth it.

Yip that's why I said TDP : Thermal Design Power :D :p

Yeah and what I was saying was that it wasn't only the power draw but also the raw processing power of the cpu.
It kinda makes that low powered i7 more like the laptop variant. They kinda pointless from what I see, as I would rather just invest in a better PSU or go for an i5.

Good Point :) I will have a look early next year to upgrade my Rig. Only Board and CPU at this stage. Shouldnt work out to much, an I might even get to salvage some money of my current parts as they are only about 9 months old.

Yip you do get some mentals out there that would go for the "Green" option..God only knows why.

Mate if I was you I would sell right now, the prices of 1366 pretty much dropped to the bottom when sandy came out, to give you an idea..I bought a 17 920 + Asus P6T Deluxe v2 (R4000 motherboard) for R2000..for the bundle.

Thanks for the advice... I really wish I could sell now. All my money going into our holiday for January, so I would only be able to do it afterwards... and to top it off our Washing Machine gave in so that also needs to be replaced. But hey, maybe I keep it and build a second PC for the wife next year or I use it to build a nice HTPC.

Will Ivybridge processors work in Sandybridge motherboards? Can't seem to find a definitive answer online - I've got the 2500k Sandybridge model with a P8P67 b3 mobo.
