Ivy Bridge Pricing revealed

Yes indeed, so looks like I'm waiting for the Ivy Bridge as my way into the iSeries.... but Q2 2012? nasogreat :/
Sandy here I come :/

Don't know, depends on your current specs and if they will play any games that are a must for you between now and release of Ivy. They look to be very similar pricing so a 6 month wait might be best?

Almost cracking the 4GHz mark! So close... I wonder how long it will take for this to be brought to the notebook market. If I'm lucky my next work notebook upgrade might just be one of these...

lol e6420 bra, 775 yo.... need a upgrade atleast in the next month or so.... Q2 wont make it for me...

no offence but I am surprised you have left it for so long as that is ageing quite a bit. But yeah if you can wait it could be better to wait rather.

Lol :D old ass CPU hey, but money wasn't all that available... and besides, I could play most new games still(and not at lowest setting even).... first game to make my CPU cry was NFS The Run(and I assume BF3 will do the same since it's both Frostbite)

BF3 will eat that cpu alive xD

I am with you on this one, if you always end up waiting you'll never have a new pc, there will always be something newer/faster right around the corner. Up to you though in the end. There is nothing wrong with Sandy Bridge, its actually fantastic, Ivy is just slightly faster and although price indications show them to be priced in the same bracket, I can almost assure you that the SA Suppliers/retailers will bump up the prices by a huge margin.

Yeah I need my upgrade sooner so def going with Sandy(second hand ftw :P)
And based on how my 2007 decommed e6420 performed, I'm sure if I go Sandy I'll last quite a while aswell.

Yeah Sandy should be good till 2014 late probably even 2015 at the rate of reqs.
If you can go i5 though.

For purely gaming, do you guys think it will really make a big difference from an i5 2500?? I mean, the FPS increase will be nice, but if you can keep running at over 60fps in games, why upgrade?

Another problem is console gaming keeping the games hardware requirements down, so I do not see this being a smart upgrade if you already have an i5/i7

Cpu changes dont make a huge difference in games. It is usuallly one of the last things to bottleneck gaming performance.

No, the i5 2500 will last long enough to only really look at the architecture that comes after Ivy, maybe even the one after that depending on how long that takes.

Ah cool ty, that was what i was thinking. It seems that games these days have so much less CPU needed :)
