Some Johannesburg suburbs have been plunged into darkness when cables were stolen from the Houtkoppen substation, City Power said on Saturday.

"Eskom protection cables were stolen on transformer one and two at the same substation and it resulted in power loss affecting the areas," Sol Masolo said in a statement.

"City Power and Eskom technicians are currently on site attending to the restoration of power."

Increase the penalty for the thief and the scum who take the scrap metal. Still, it's a grim thing to be outing electricity.
