John Carmack hits back at fussy critics

Yip. If you know anything at all about the id Tech 5 engine you should respect him and his abilities.
Megatexture, for one, is incredible.

Don't see ID tech take up as with unreal engine. Look JC is good, but we are far over the " fetch red key card " phase.

Don't see why you are all bitching about the programmers... yea maybe ID isn't up to scratch anymore, but can any of you produce the genius tech that these guys spew out?
I'd give both my nuts to be able to program like they do!!!
One thing I don't like is if the games get hyped up and turns out to be duds.
But, instead, we have to wait till the next big thing comes out, so we can sit and play it till early hours...

What do you actually mean by "Unreal engine > ID tech"? In what way is UE better?

id Tech 4 is the latest id engine to be used and was first used in DOOM3 in 2004. UnrealEngine3 was first used in UT3 in 2007. UE3 was used 3 years later so of course id Tech 4 is going to have less use and be more dated but how is that relevant to it being better or not?

Have you watched the dev diaries for Rage? What's going on in the backend is incredible and John Carmack has made that possible. If Megatexture isn't "magic" then what is?

Please explain how quoting a game mechanic from DOOM (id Tech 1 and more than 15 years old) is relevant to id Tech 5?

What do you mean by what I bolded? id hasn't fully developed a game since DOOM3 in 2004 so how can you say "anymore"?

Not badmouthing Id, but Doom3 was not as great as Doom and Quake, sure better graphics and close quater scare factor, but gameplay was not the same. Quake 3 Arena rocked!!! It is just been toooooo quiet at ID since Doom 3, they should have brought out someting like Quake 4 Arena.... but we will see what Rage/ID Tech5 will bring... can't wait for that.

Wat?!? I think ID games got past that after doom 2. And its slightly ironic to agree that "no one listens to him anymore" while your avatar pic is of the doom guy.

But seriously, what's this thread about? Why's everyone tuning John Carmack now? :O And since when did noone care about id's games anymore? Are you guys smoking some crack or what's cutting here? :D

RAGE is going to be amazing, I rate. ID's game have never failed.
 
RAGE is looking awesome, but Carmack hasn't released a notable game since Doom 3, that's seven years ago, so maybe he should do less yapping and focus on getting a good game out.

I'd be really surprised if rage is a game actually and not another technology demo.

I agree, Rage is tech demo, I read something along those lines from an id software statement. From what I gathered they even saying its going to be alright, but doom 4 is going to be epic.
