Divinity: Original Sin

From the moment I crowned myself with a bucket, this game has consumed me... Also the same reason why this entry took so long to construct. Logging 30+ hours within the week of purchase I ate, slept and dreamt Divinity: OS. Actually, this relation/obsession did not start there. It began during the sale...

Divinity flirted with me on the first day of the steam sale with 20% off.
All my experience in dating (sims) have taught me to play it cool and wait. So I smoothly put Divinity on my wishlist then waited. Surely enough, it came back as a community vote.

But to my horror, the game did not win the vote!
No panic yet, still a week left for the game to appear on a flash sale...
Days begin to pass, but still not sale appearance.
Becoming more anxious with each passing day, I monitored the steam sale like an NSA agent.
8 hours, refresh, 8 hours, refresh...

The last steam day was approaching, but still no Divinity:OS sale.
Even Larian Studio said on Twitter that there won't be another sale before release.
I was becoming desperate, thinking of doing something unthinkable - buying a game for full price during the steam sale!

The last day of the steam sale was upon me.
With a shaky hand and a sinking heart, I pressed F5.
Sheer joy erupted from me as I see Divinity:OS on sale sale!
Needless to say, that was one of the fastest purchase in my purchasing history.
(Also ended up with a stubbed toe from kicking the chair)

So that's the story of how we met. The game itself is a brilliant CRPG (classic RPG), meaning you have the freedom to do anything and talk to anyone, also vice versa.
Bundled with a game editor, this game will keep any RPG fan happy for a long time.
My vote for RPG game of the year award right here.

Unreal

Bought the Unreal deal pack, includes all the Unreal/Unreal tournament games from start to finish. It felt so unreal seeing the whole package for R100 odd on the steam sale and just had to buy it.

Started playing the first installment of Unreal, and brings back memories :) Later, I tried out unreal tournament online and I still seem to have it in me to compete with others on an international server with a bit of lag.

Entry: Bioshock Infinite

I really enjoyed the first two Bioshock games and have been looking forward to playing Bioshock Infinite for a while now. So when I saw that it was on special during the Steam Summer Sale I got it immediately.

And I'm not disappointed! In my opinion this new Bioshock is the best of the three.

I couldn't stop playing. I didn't get bored even once during the game and I was enthralled the whole way through. From the start where I was just amazed at how beautiful everything is and then to having Elizabeth as a companion. I love how they made her such an animated (excuse the pun) character. When we walked through an area where people were smoking she would start coughing. She would stop and look at little things and her emotions were always easily readable. Throughout the game she changed, just as the environment did I couldn't wait to learn more about her.

Some people have complained about the shooting mechanics but I had none of that. It was point and shoot and worked perfectly. I haven't had this much fun in a game in quite a while.

The best part? The ending! It's something that I hope most people will experience. All the Bioshock games had big twists but Infinite arguably has the best one.

It only left one word in my mind as I experienced the ending:

Wow.

It's an amazing game and everyone should play it... and finish it.

That title goes with Rome Total War 2.

I started playing that game in high school in grade 11. At the time I was a good student, maybe not great in terms of marks but the teachers appreciated my effort and I was given a green card. I managed to hold on to this honour for 2 years and then I found Rome.

At the time a green card had with it certain privileges at school. From 18:30 till 21:30 was what was known as prep time, during such time cell phones were banned, music shunned and computers reserved strictly for work purposes. However with my green card I got to shun the rules, which was normally me listening to music or watching a movie on my laptop after I finished my work. This routine worked well, I kept the teachers happy with good work, finally the timetable matched my fast pace and I got to watch all 10 seasons of friends twice. Then I got rome total war and balance had been lost.

First it started with me rushing through work so I could get back into the game, no biggy as it still got done. That didn't last, as the empire expanded so did my commitment the game, the barbarians feared me on the battlefield and the maths sums which once feared me now haunted my dreams. I would fake an injury on thursdays to prevent selection for the nicotine 15 rugby team so I wouldn't have to travel down to durban for matches (less people at an abandoned school to judge my addiction also). However it all caught up to me when my marks caught up to the treatment I gave my studies, my marks fell and I lost my green card. I had to halt my campaign into egypt, my well earned privileges had been taken away faster than my ability to tear apart alliances. I emerged a term later from my desk fort of coke cans to a sad truth, I now had to work during prep time, the horror o the horror. I still blame that stupid nation of carthage.

Entry: DayZ

I must admit, I have been waiting a very long time to get this game, and when the time finally arose I pounced on it instantly.

So far not one regret was given. However I did expect more from the game (graphics wise), but one cannot pre-judge a game that is only in alpha. And this certainly has been a ultra-successful alpha for this game, with thousands upon thousands of copies sold already.

Just jump into a random server or joining up with all your friends, however you want to play this game, you will have loads of fun doing so. Now that is often a rarity for a game that has not even reached it's Beta testing yet.

So rather jump on board now, so that you can watch this piece of art develop and see how this rough stone will turn into a flawless crystal.

Trust me (and the thousands of others who have this game already), you will not regret playing this!

There is but one rule.
Don't get killed by a zombie. ;)
