Chomping and stomping its way to box office infamy, Jurassic World took in $511.8 million dollars around the world this weekend, setting the record for biggest global opening of all time.

This is the first time a movie has grossed more than a half a billion dollars in one weekend, notes TheWrap - the previous record for a global opening weekend was Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Part 2 with $483.2 million. Directed by Colin Tevrorrow, and starring Chris Pratt and Bryce Dallas Howard, Jurassic World was number one in all 66 markets it debuted, which includes the United Kingdom, China, Russia, Australia and Mexico.

Jurassic World has garnered much better reviews than the previous two sequels. IGN gave it an 8.3, calling it "a blockbuster that sells spectacle with some old-school value."

Hopefully this leads to more dinosaur themed media (I'm looking at you Capcom with your Dino Crisis franchise gathering dust). I was disappointed by the film, although it's not by any means a bad film, just would've preferred a more tense film akin to the original, but hopefully it's success leads to great things for dinosaur fans.

Wow... Thats insane... I suppose this proves what a huge factor nostalgia plays when something is done well...
