Just Cause 2 Multiplayer Mod Released!

Thought I'd post a new thread about this now that it is released. The mod is a lot of fun with a variety of things to do. For the most part you make your own fun and there are some hilarious situations that arise from all the multiplayer madness going on. But there are also some well designed features such as the races which are really well thought out and are nice and varied (from powerboat races, car versus helicopter races to a base jumping race down the mountainside)

The best thing is that there are South African servers!

All you need for the mod is a copy of Just Cause 2 - currently $3 on sale via Steam

Then go to http://www.jc-mp.com/ to get the client which is integrated into your Steam library. Install and launch an have fun!

Holy shit this is awesome! :D Joined a international server with 300 ping. Not really any noticeable lag. Was having a blast but then the game crashed which kind of sucked.

Just me, or does the game crash/lose connection a lot (on both int and local servers). Maybe it's my connection, but I can play BF3 fine so...

EDIT: Ok, these crashes are getting annoying... I guess this is what BF4 is like :p After turning off MSI Afterburner, the crashes seem to have stopped. It's a pity 'cause now I can't record :/ Seriously though, this is hilarious. Hold shift whenever you get in a vehicle, just do it :D

Tried it now, but can't seem to get it working. :( It just crashes almost immediately when it gets into the game, I just see a logo and initializing and then I'm back in windows.

Hmm...make sure that you have as little background processes running as possible. Other than that, I can't give you much more advice. You do have the base JC2 game installed right? Try running that and see if there are any problems.

The first thing I checked when it kept crashing was that the base game was installed on my PC, but it was working fine. Got the MP to work for a few minutes now. Joined a SA server, had to be because of the low latency, but even though it said there were 20 people on the server I couldn't find anyone. Joined an international server with about 300 ping and immediately saw three other people and then killed one of them before almost being killed myself. Got in a car to drive away and the game crashed. Will try again later, but it seems like it could be a lot of fun.

Yea, it did that with me quite a bit. There's apparently a couple of cars that are prone to causing the game to crash, but the reports are very inconsistent.

The local servers are very empty. Keep to the int. servers with more than 300 people. Also, some commands that may be useful if you didn't know them already: /tp airport /tp pie /tp dish ; those are usually the most busy areas where there's maximum carnage. I joined a German server with 600 people, most of whom where in the airport. It was crazy. Unfortunately, my ping was too high to be able to shoot anyone, but just messing around with vehicles is great.
 
Ya unfortunately the mod isn't 100% stable but it often seems to be related to how busy the server is. I've clocked 7 hours so far just messing around so keep trying, sometimes you get lengthy periods where there is no crashing

Another few helpful tips are:

Press B to open the buy menu - you can purchase weapons, vehicles and different model skins (quite a few servers have made all the items free to purchase)

Type /race to enter the next race - Winner gets $10 000 and then each subsequent placing gets 75% of the person ahead of them.

Another activity hotspot is the "Mile High Club" - /tp mhc

Also... push F5 to see the list of commands and what scripts are enabled on the server.
 
I just got about 3k from coming 4th or 5th in race. I want to try a derby, those sound fun. I'm playing primarily on a German server call Saur Freeroam for the time being - 1000 people FTW!

EDIT: Did a derby, that was awesome.

Will definitively play this a bit the next two days when I'm off. The little bit that I did play was fun. Thanks for the tips with the commands, will come in handy.
 
Here's a handy webpage for more tips and info. Some of the stuff is obsolete but the tips about some of the locations is really helpful especially the additional places of interest.
 
Came across a PC Gamer article that speaks about a special JC2-MP server called Build World where you can spawn any object that exists in JC2. The result is some amazing and wacky sights.
