I don't this is an issue at all today, I mean the kids of today are basically born with a keyboard and mouse in hand.
I played games with keyboard only
In fact before I got a proper joystick it was 10 fingers and descent. So much that we had debates over whether or not keyboard was better than using a joystick. We also had matches to prove that either the keyboard was better or the joystick was superior. I remember that one of my friend had to concede to defeat after I made a good show in two player d!match and there was no question whether not not a keyboard only player could pawn someone who is using a joystick
Then came my master, the great one that taught me to strafe. Yes back on those days one had to be taught to transcend from keyboard to joystick or keyboard to mouse and keyboard. Resistance was fierce, lol, a bit like trying to get people to go from windows 3.11 to windows 95 or 95 to 98. Nonetheless we had strafe training in duke3D that was the game that taught me to use a keyboard and mouse.
This of course was perfected in quake and quake 3 arena. Sheesh and had we practice to kill by bot and by mouse lol. I'd be quite surprised if one can just play q3a with keyboard and be good
