Kingdoms of Amalur: Reckoning demo launched

I thought it was available on the 17th already?! Thats when I downloaded it.

Same.

Played it; not sure how I feel about it.

It looks like it has a lot of promise, combat is incredible fun but the dialogue puts me to sleep.

Also, for the artist who came up with the dark graphical world of Spawn, it's very, very colourful. Reminds me a lot of Blizzard's art-style used in WoW, Starcraft, etc. VERY colourful.

I liked it, played like Fable but without all the broken promises. The fact that Salvatore is involved drew me in, I love his Forgotten Realms novels.

Whats up with the dialogue?

I'm going to download the demo tonight on both Steam and PSN. I'll see first of all which platform I prefer and then whether or not the game is good enough to be worth purchasing.

I have downloaded it at home so waiting to go home.... but I also have it on my work laptop... gave it a bash this morning just to see how it looks and feels, but quit after I killed 2 giant rats coz... I'm at work and there's HR behind me :P(sigh IT and HR in one office, not awesome)
So far it's looking very good but need to give it a proper play to decide.

I d/l it for Xbox (might try it on PC just for comparison sakes) but I enjoyed the game very much. Not sure what the bugs are, that are being referred to, but I haven't experience much/any from what I played

The thing that did have me a little annoyed was the EA part of it. As soon as it started up there was the "Connecting to EA Servers" part and I was like, "WTF for? o_O". This is a single.player.game. Why must I connect to a server. Does it mean if I'm offline I can't play? Then there was that sign up part, which I know is skippable but why; all I want is to switch on, put disc in, play. No need to still sign in if it's not a multiplayer game and what not. I don't know how many other games have this in them, but for me it's just a little sucky. I know, I know...First World Problems, but why?
Then there was the "You have 45 minutes left of play". D= Why?!?!?! Even though it's a demo, it's an RPG demo. Why can't I play it as much as want? The game isn't even out yet, what am I supposed to do now EA? Why are you messing with my feelings this T_T

It's is a very kewl game. It doesn't have the complexity of the more advanced RPG's but its simplistic nature makes it quick to understand. That being said, it doesn't mean your character will be very linear. You can choose gender, race (with racial bonuses) and class. The class system is limited to 3 basic classes but you don't have to stick just one. From just the demo, I can't say much how it flesh out, but I hope the finished product is what I perceive it be :D

In an endeavour to deter people from buying pre-owned most publishers and even some devs have taken to creating these online communities for their games. It stores all the games you've played from a specific publisher, so in the Case of EA they can give us rewards in Battlefield 3 for playing BFBC2, Mass Effect even the original Battlefield 2. Its also what allowes you to unlock items for Mass Effect 3 in Kingdom's of Amalur demo and vice versa. It will not stop you from playing if you are not online, it simply wont sync with the server again until you play. So its not WTF it is the publisher trying to reward you for playing their games, another term for it is social gaming, like Autolog in Need for Speed or the Explore system in the new SSX. It is gaming evolving & unless you have a 56kb/s line the connection/synce to the EA server wont take but a moment and its data consumption, if you are still backwards enough to be capped, will be minimal.
As for your second point, the idea of a demo is to wet your appetite for the game, so limiting the player is a good way to let them explore the area and get feel for the game, no demo is going to let you play as much as you want. Most demos are extremely linear and short, i think well into an hours gameplay is more than adequate, especially considering that none of the loot you pick up or xp your acquire will carry over to the game which, when the full game comes out, will mean replaying a huge part of the game which will no doubt incite more whining from at least a few entitled little shits who call themselves gamers.

My rant was meant as light-hearted rant and not to be taken seriously, hence the ignorable="true" attribute.
It's a demo. It's free. No one is entitled to anything from it. That should go without explaining

But I digress and agree that my appetite for this game has indeed been whetted.

I downloaded the demo yesterday, and I must say I really enjoyed it. Has me more intrigued than Skyrim has. I'm still not sure if I'll buy it though. Maybe when there's a bit of a price drop.
