I played that to death as well, long time ago

I remember there were clicker sites, where you get a program that generates other players' links and everytime you click you get a credit, so that then your link will show up to other players. Good way of getting to thousands of citizens fast.

As far as browser based games go, I think ogame was my favourite. Good luck! Enjoy lack of sleep
