A fallout between Kojima Productions and its owning publisher, Konami, has led to senior staff at the studio being restricted access to corporate internet, emails, and phone, GameSpot understands.

Along with the restricted communications, key developers at the studio, such as Hideo Kojima, will now have limited opportunities to lend their appearance to promotions of the studio’s upcoming game, Metal Gear Solid 5: The Phantom Pain. Power struggles between Kojima Productions and Konami have led the publisher to make drastic changes, including the employee status of its Metal Gear team. Some senior staff at the studio, including Kojima, now essentially work as contractors, not permanent employees.

The extraordinary measures were revealed by a source within the studio, speaking to GameSpot on the condition of anonymity. The person explained that, once the Phantom Pain project is finished, in all likelihood the management at the studio will disband.

"After we finish MGSV, Mr. Kojima and upper management will leave Konami. They said their contract ends in December," the source claimed. The person added: "At a team meeting, Mr Kojima explained that team have to be one and make a good game for fans."

Source.

Well then, well done Konami. You just lost the only thing that still makes you money, other than PES. Genius! /s

im saying this is a marketing ploy, kojima already said a while ago this would be his last mgs game (and he probably planned in advance to go independant with kojima productions and do other things) and this is just done to stir up controversy around mgs 5 and guage more interest in the title in the hope of selling maybe a few extra million Copies,

He was let go as a Konami executive as well. He's no longer on the board. I don't think it's a joke. And how would this cause more sales? The majority of people who play games don't read news sites, there's no way any tangible increase of sales will come from this, especially not 'a few extra million'. That argument is quite paper thin.

They've also removed the "A Hideo Kojima Game" from the MGSV boxart and have removed most mentions of him from the MGSV site.

I don't think Konami realise that the main reason why people buying Metal Gear games is primarily because of Kojima. They don't buy them just because the title says Metal Gear. Maybe this is all one big joke, but those legal filings look legit. I think someone has had a falling out. Remember what Capcom did to Inafune? Wouldn't surprise me if something similar is happening here.

This doesn't look like a joke. I'm not sure how I feel about Kojima being removed from Metal Gear. He is Metal Gear...
