Yeah, you have to sneak past them.
Also, one of the walls at the beginning, by the entry portal, is breakable. Although I can't remember if that was only breakable from the otherside.
If one of your guys can cast invisibility, life becomes much easier. Use him to move around and you'll find a portal somewhere where you can meet up with the rest of your guys. The rest should be self-evident.

Finished this game a few days ago and I must say I'm really impressed. However, the endgame (in terms of combat) was a bit of a bore, because once you hit lvl 16 or so your tactics are pretty much set and every fight feels similar. The ulti spells are a bit meh - powerful but random and unreliable. The story really picked up; in the beginning I skimmed most dialogue, but towards the end I actually read every line 
Think I'll do a replay sometime in the future with a buddy going two lone wolf characters.
Did you come right with this?
If you're still stuck you can always try killing him. Or continue in the second area after Cyseal. Do the quest that Loic gives you. There's quite a few of those things you need around in the second area. I think I picked up 4. Not 100% sure about this but I think there is one in the house where you found the reveal spell.

yup, turns out, the damned stupid medallian can only be spotted if you click the MISC tab in inventory. but the reason why i kept missing it, was that I had collected an identical looking "Royal Medallion" and kept thinking that was what I was seeing!

WOW! I took last night at some reviews of this game a Path of Exile.
Needless to say, I am downloading PoE (because it's free and why the hell not) and added Original Sin to my wishlist, as I have fallen in love! It's looks amazing!
I have been interested in it since release but now I would really like to get/own this.

DoS is absolutely awesome! get it dude, you won't regret it!
Regarding PoE, i have also downloaded it to give it a bash, due to it being free. But i imagine its gonna be more along the lines of Diablo, while DoS is more along the lines of Baldurs Gate
