I need some advice myg friends..

Never owned a ps3/360 in my life and now that they're becoming affordable for me I wanna pick one up 2nd hand..

The question I wanna ask is... which platform has the best online experience?

Which platform has the definitive version of gta 5?

Which one do you think will be supported the longest into the ps4/xbox 1 generation in terms of online services and games?

I wanna play online most of the time and so far I've managed to get good deals on ps3's (which has good games!) but there's something compelling to go xbox due to the more robust online experience.

Does the ps3 manage just fine with online play? How is the community? Which one is more fun?

Which console has the best netcode for games?

Do they both require the same kind of connection in order to play games smoothly?

Tried google but each thread/discussion boils down to a fanboy war thread.

Thanks!Would really appreciate your solid advice..

X Box more rich online experience pretty decent Graphics .
PS3 definitely better graphics not as wide online community but way better single player and exclusives

Also consider the paid services. With Xbox, you'll need Gold to play online and you get some bonus free games. With PS3, you don't need PS Plus to play online, but you do get better free games, cloud saved and auto-update downloads, which you can schedule to happen at night. That's useful, because if it gets the updates automatically, it won't bug you to update a game while you're playing it.

With PS4 you will need PS+ to play online (unless otherwise stated by the game).

Look at it this way: PS3/XB are basically the same, the biggest difference is the PS3 has a Blu ray player and the XB has a DVD player, other than that there will be exclusives to both consoles, such as Halo and Killzone, Uncharted and Fable.

Netcode for the games is dependable on the game it self not the hardware, AFAIK on my PS4 I have had very little problems with online play Killzone/Tomb Raider.

I would say go for PS3. It has a lot more awesome exclusives than the xbox 360, and their subscription service gives you way better value for money.

So let's say I subscribe for PS+, do I get pooled with other PS+ players? Is the quality of the online play better than the standard online service where I get pushed up in queues to join a server, better connection etc?

How many people use their headsets on the ps3 online? Trying to compare the GTA V online on ps3/360.

No, you'll still be playing against anyone on the net, quality stays the same. I have used a headset online with a PS3, no problems. Can't comment on using it with GTAV, haven't played much of the game's online part.

To give you a bit of info;

I bought my first Xbox360 two and half years ago, and it's great. The controller is very ergonomic and comfortable (especially for those long GTA5 game sessions). Sure you have to pay for a Gold subscription to get YouTube and play MP but I don't think it's required anymore, or MS is removing the need to have Gold in due time. But then again, it's only R50pm. I love my Xbox. I haven't come across a decently priced wireless headset, so never used one.

I bought my first PS3 in December 2013 before the release of Gran Turismo 6. The controller is smaller and comfortable, but I miss the concave triggers of the X360. I subscribed to PS+ at R69pm and the extra content you get is insane. Free games every month (including AAA titles), you got it. YoutTube for FREE, you got it. Great exclusive titles! I am using a generic Bluetooth headset. A Blu-ray player included as well.

To sum it up, since getting my PS3 I have hardly switched on my Xbox and have actually JUST sold it.
I am don't trying to down the Xbox or my experiences on it. It's just the overall experience and content and bang for your buck that you get from the PlayStation is so much more. And for a single full time dad with a day job, that helps.

I hope this helps.

Peace out,
Beo...

Thanks BEO! Yes someone that has had experience with both would be perfect.. Guess I'll just pick up an aftermarket ps3 controller if it is that bad comparing the two controllers.. I have a ps2 however and I think the controller is just fine although I think the xbox controllers are more sturdy.

Look, each control has their ups and downs. The Xbox controllers are very sturdy, when I say that I mean it. Mine have been thrown across rooms, dropped, eaten, slobbered on, drooled on, etc (you get the point). And mostly by my 2yr old son and when he was younger.

The biggest issue I have is with the PS3 controllers is the R/L2 buttons/triggers, being concave design I feel my fingers want to slip off. This has since been fixed with the PS4 controllers, but there are also ways around this --> SP3 Controller Triggers.

I hope this helps bud.

I have to agree with BeoTeK. I had both consoles, owning 3 XBOXes in the past 7 years. The first one's DVD drive gave in and the second one RROD'd. I got a PS3 shortly before the second one died. In December 2013 my wife bought me a third XBOX, but I sold it 6 months later due to it getting no game-time from me. I have since migrated back to PC gaming, but I still love the PS3 exclusives...

My vote: PS3
