I think that is a bit of a misuse of the term pirate. Emulated or illegitimate might be a better description but that can be said about any LAN 'hack/mod'.

The biggest problem with this one is actually finding enough people who can play the game ^^

Absolutely LOVE the intro theme to this game ! Still need to try and get my grubby little mitts on the expansion/sequel Cataclysm

You may find this list of freeware/free-to-play LAN games useful. None of the games require an Internet connection to play.

I see that Half Life 2 Deathmatch is free on steam, would be great to avoid steam completely seeing as some players dont have internet at home.
