Oprah Winfrey's much-anticipated interview with Lance Armstrong was seen by a total of 4.3 million viewers in back-to-back airings Thursday night on OWN.

But the interview with the disgraced cycling champion drew only 3.2 million viewers for its first airing, an audience that fell short of OWN's most-watched program: an interview Winfrey conducted with the family of Whitney Houston last March following the singer's death the previous month.

He shouldn't have done that, he was a hero to thousands of people suffering from cancer. It was a story of hope for millions and now what's left?

Do you mean the doping, or the interview?

I'm amazed at the amount of surprise over his confession. Professional cycling is known for doping and performance enhancing drugs, from a relatively low level up. It isn't really news, IMO.
On the other hand, it's given me a massive self esteem boost; I now have the same number of Tour De France titles as Lance Armstrong! :D

I meant the interview, before this you could at least try to ignore the issue. Its kinda hard to believe the lie now.

Say what you want about him, but every other rider was also doping and many still are to this day.

I agree with your second comment; he was still head and shoulders above the rest of the pack, while they were using the exact same uppers and performance enhancers. He still is an amazing sportsman, and always will be, IMO. The only criticism I ever could level against the man was that the rest of his team didn't always quite get the recognition they deserve, as TDF is really a team sport.

The interview, I believe, was a very calculated move. Remember, all his sponsorships of the past decade or so have a) withdrawn their support, and b) asked their money back. He is in serious financial trouble now, and he needs to make a plan to get out of it. IMO, he is planning on writing another book, about the doping, why he was wrong to do it, etc. etc. This interview is the precursor, getting hype going around the issue.

I believe that if this weren't the case, and he truly wanted to confess, he'd have done it at the height of the controversy.. Getting Oprah in on it is a classic spin doctor move, not one of a sportsman. Social sciences folks have even commented on how the purpose of being interviewed by her is to humanize him and redeem him in the eyes of the public..

All, IMO, lining up for a book.

I dont even care if he was doping, i dont know why. Plus I truly believe the majority of the riders all dope, thats why he could do it with a clear conscience, as to him, it was still a level playing field.
Its all pretty crazy though.

You, still the best - they were all doping so the effects level out.

Feel sorry for the minority who were not doping - they were the ones who were done in.

Watched part 1 and 2 very interesting. I think its the first and most important step in his own long walk to freedom. Just hope he is not trying to capabilities on this.

P.s Christopher Nolan has been suggested to direct the Lance Armstrong movie ;)

It also sucks that Lance has been given a life ban and his team-mates get a slap on the wrist.
Maybe they should place dopers in a 2nd category and police from there.

I guess this was inevitable.
