Larrabee postponed indefinitely

This is bad, AMD/ATI need competition so they keep their prices competitive and don't start a monopoly

I just don't think it was viable yet. Clearly they had proven it could be done, but if I had to guess, the price point due to manufacturing costs wouldn't make it competitive. A similar grade CPU and graphics card would have probably been a lot cheaper. Due to how complex the CPU would be, it could very well be cheaper to get a faster CPU and graphics card.

Of course, the other big problem is that graphics hardware has not plateaud yet. Newer, faster, bigger and badder graphics cards are still coming out in very quick cycles.

In a quite a few years time though, when GFX hardware development has slowed down and Intel has drastically improved their manufacturing process, Larrabee could make quite a stir.

Was really looking forward to this. Not only because of the pressure this would put on ati/nvidia, but more options in such a huge market = win.

Ja, Intel just don't have the market penetration to understand the game developing environment like NVIDA and AMD enjoy. The only way they could have been viable would have been to create a product that performed the same funtionality and methods of rendering that NVIDIA and AMD use, but they didnt want to go that route and failed to get support for their idea...it's not the 1st time, there was VPro or something like that that also fell on it's face a long time ago....
Personally I never though it was a good idea for Intel to get into the GFX market, sure it'd be great if there was another player in the market, but not Intel IMHO...Theres already enough ego with NVIDIA...
