Summary:

- Woman (Quinn) makes a flash based game (more of one of those text based choose your own adventure things) about battling depression

-The game receives critical acclaim from gaming journalist websites, and makes its way onto Steam

-Quinn's ex boyfriend releases chat logs about her cheating on him with various men

-Some of these men are key players in gaming journalism, and are responsible for the positive press Quinn's game received

-Mods of gaming forums including /r/gaming, /r/Games and 4chan's /v/ are removing all traces of this drama. At least one mod from /r/gaming talked to Quinn on Twitter beforehand.

Must admit I had to read that 3x to figure it out... :(

Curious why /v/ *and* the r's are removing it though...seems like an unlikely coincidence.
 
Probably to avoid witch hunts. The masses on the internet love harassing and threatening people that they think did something to wrong them.
 
They made a mod post in /r/gaming about it but it's not very satisfactory. Especially since they screenshot the gaming mod asking to speak to Quinn on twitter.
 
The game is free though... It's free! She really doesn't stand to gain anything from this other than publicity (which is all negative at this stage) from stunts like this.

It all just seems like a witch-hunt for a witch-hunt's sake.

As far as I could figure it out:
Short version -> this woman developed a game and then jumped into bed with a bunch of journalists (not all at once, though) to negotiate better reviews and publicity for her game. Or that's what people say. She says it's a personal matter and has nothing to do with her game.

No word yet if any MyGaming journalists are among the naughty boys.

Yeah it's no surprise that sexm monay and lies make the gaming world go around just like any other :P Good that it was brought to the light so that at least the people involved in this scandal can be named and shamed.
 
I'm fighting hard against the urge to revel in some drama, but does this really have anything to do with us? This woman is morally reprehensible for jumping in bed with 5 guys behind her biyfriend's back, but that matter has nothing to do with us. People cheat every day and that's their business.

It seems people are angry because she cheated with people who covered her game (amongst others), but her game is distributed free of charge. She's not exactly making money off the publicity she received, so I really doubt that this was a case of her exchanging sexual favors for free press. I really think she's just very promiscuous and therefore that's her business. Ain't got nothing to do with us and the internet needs to chill out. Other peoples' sex lives are their problem.
 
It blew up because of the copious censorship by moderators on multiple internet sites known for freedom of speech. They cited doxxing as the reason (exposing people's personal info) but peeps seem to think it's a bit weak.

These are exactly my feelings on the matter. Ultimately though, people love a bit of juicy gossip and this issue is going to be blown way out of proportion.
 
If you watch the video then you will see that she is making because of the publicity. She's not selling her game but she has amassed a lot of followers on Twitter. Then she will complain that she is mugged and then all her followers create a fund for her. She also has other projects that are receiving funding now, including a game jam that has no official start date.

The worst for me is that one site that offered women to come up with a game design idea and.. Sorry I got to get to work. Will try and finish this story later.

The video is worth the watch though.
 
There's something about the reaction to this that is screaming at me.
I'm just gonna say I believe that the community reaction to this would not have been nearly as strong if she was a male.
 
Honestly I didn't know who this Zoe was until I read the blog post and read up on her. Never heard of her game either but no matter the outcome of this, the scandal has effectively put her solidly on the map.

Now If what she did is true and it was for personal gain, then well shame on her from a moral standpoint. If she indeed did sleep around to further her career, to get her name to rise in the social ranks then.....well whoopie. It's not like she is the first person to ever do it, male or female, many many people I have known or met and still know have handed out free tickets to the fun palace more than once to get what they want. The only difference is her dirty laundry got washed and air dried on the wonderfully vast internet.

I only feel for the guy, the ex-boyfriend. In some ways I know how he feels, having had the same kind of relationship in the past. As for bringing it all to light, his aim was not to out her about her sexual adventures for gifts from whomever, but to get rid of all the hurt he was feeling. Most of you know that this kind of thing breaks a person down, your spirit and self confidence just shatters and it takes a very long time to repair that damage.

If this was swapped and it was a guy's fault, the outcry would have been the same I am guessing. But the mob is fickle so it could have swung the other way.

This Zoe person is not really the kind of role-model female gamers, or anyone for that matter, should be backing or fuelling her social status. If you watch some of her posts, she is not a very pleasant person behind the curtains. She comes of as sweet and cute or whatever, but in reality she seems to be faking it just to make a name for herself.
