League of Legends - Review

Well as an avid Dota then HoN fan I recently watched a Clip on League of Legends
after about 3 or 4 days of games heres my review :)!

First and foremost This is Free to play/download/eaton
And my ping with shaped cap is 180 on EU servers which is awesome.

So its like Dota right?

First and foremost LoL is similar to both Dota and HoN however is Neither.
LoL adds its own spin to things by letting players personalize their heroes out of the game (For in game) This is done with a mastery system similar to that of World of Warcraft - Any WoW players among us will know just how much of a difference your spec can make to your gameplay! Another method of personalizing your experience is through a rune system + rune page, these allow small tweaks to your hero for instance "+0.25 mana regen per level" or "+ 0.2% crit" not much of a difference... but fill up a page of runes and its a different story.

So what makes me want to play this game forever and a day?
Well each game nets you some IP - Points used to purchase Runes/Champions ( More on this soon) IP is awarded for wins and gametime played. The longer the match the more IP you get. A loss gets you about 50 IP and a win about 80 and then included is about 40+- for the in game time spent. One does get full IP for playing against bots!

LoL includes a FULL tutorial including a look at many of the terms used by regular players "Mid" "SS" "re" etc

Every week or so im told they rotate Heroes that anyone may use so for this week you have a selection of XXX and next week YYY. I think there are 10 to choose from weekly, this helps newer players try out all different styles and find heroes they like and would like to purchase. Yes I said purchase! Not with real money mind you, you use IP to buy Heroes after about 4 games played I was already able to buy 3 Different heroes which I can now use "Forever" ^^. The most costly of Heroes are still within reach of Casual players. As Im sure you have guessed if you dont own the hero and its not one of the 10 for the week you cant play him/her. Included in the 10 weekly heroes are some of the most costly ones so its not a case of having the dregs to choose from.

Newly implemented is Players vs AI - Matchmaking with players vs AI takes me about 2.034 seconds on average to find a full team, or you can invite your own friends ( If you have any ) Teams are usually 5v5 with Easy bots being an ok challenge for complete noobs and intermediate bots better than most players ^^.

Players accounts Level from 1 - 30 from games played. Once a player reaches lv 30 he has access to the Official rating system which includes better players in high profile match ups and tourneys.

As a side note, Bonus IP is awarded for Winning not for kills/deaths so players are more focused on the win rather than I want to take every kill for myself cause im OP irl.
Stats recorded are - Games won - Kills -Creep Kills... no deaths or"How bad you are ratio" so it makes it a little less competitive in that regard.

The game itself is 1.6 Gigs to download with a patch of about 100 mb...
When u basically sign up you "promise" to uphold the "goody 2 shoes" code... this means you will be fair right just ... etc ( Not in those exact words mind you ^^ )
So getting reported by multiple players multiple times can easily get you suspended or even banned.

Coming soon I see is "TRIBUNAL"
Quite the good idea tbh, when one logs in he/she has the option to read through incident reports and rate whether or not the person who was reported should be "punished"
This is of course done with the incentive of Bonus IP for helping out and also means that reported players actually get dealt with!

Below is a Link to download the game, included is my referral to give me bonus IP for a few games played and below that are one or two screenshots of the rune/mastery pages.
I have not covered nearly 5% of the game yet so this review is lacking in allot of ways but I hope its been insightful and that you may give it a try :)!
Make sure to download the EU client as our US pings arent that great!

Advanced Rune Tip :
When it comes to runes what I could suggest is: Your average value of a Tier 3 rune is 720 IP ( Yes I added all the costs together ) A method not mentioned above is that one can combine runes, it takes 5 runes of one tier to make one rune of the next tier. So 5 tier one would make a tier two and 5 tier two would make a tier 3. So what can be done is buying 25 x tier one runes at a value of 15 IP costing 375 in total by combining all these you should get a tier 3 rune of almost double the value, however it is a random one! It just so happens the first time I did this I got one worth 2050 :)

Cho'Gath want to eat your puny character choices :D

Tis a fun game, I approve, and I would still play if not for the iBurst's connection unstability being a bad choice to play games with

I love this game and how they keep balancing it and bring in new characters.
also its free to play so no one has any excuse not to join.
And I love how you need to play every character differently , alot of fun.

I recently started to play this. What a awesome game.

My in game name is BloodPacked, anyone playing this? let me know? We make a game?

Great review. I absolutely love this game. I have been playing for almost 2 years now (I had a Beta account). I started off on the US servers with a dismal 300ms and higher ping. This was before the EU launch and even when EU was available it was always quite a few patches behind and damn unstable. There has been a LOT of improvement since and now EU is practically identical to the US servers so recently I decided to abandon my Digital Collectors Edition level 30 US account and start again on the EU servers. Half the ping is quite an incentive and makes champions like Twisted Fate playable. I will be buying one of the game packs next month on the EU side. Why spend money on both the US and EU when I don't even use the US account anymore? Because I fully support Riot and LoL, they are a beacon of light in the modern games industry - instead of churning out half finished sensationalist bullshit, marketing to death and maximizing profit, Riot actually sees the value in making a good game with excellent support and putting out new content as often as possible, updating and balancing the game to make sure its fair and playable.

Check out the Riot games youtube channel: http://www.youtube.com/user/RiotGamesInc The latest patch preview is already up and do yourself a favor and watch some of the champion spotlights as well as the art spotlights.

I gave this game a try some months back. As my first foray into a DoTA type game it was not good. I just got fed up with the "n00b" comments.

Playing with a bunch of immature kids is not my idea of fun.

No offence to any of you in this thread. :p

Wow I didn't realize these many people played LoL in SA, been playing on my lonesome for a while. :)

Edit:
Playing with a bunch of immature kids is not my idea of fun.
Yeah it's unfortunate that this kind of behaviour is part of the landscape. If you play with a group of friends though it can be tons of fun.
