Learn to let go: A Duke Nukem Forever story

Quite an interesting read:

By 1994, Broussard began concocting his own breakout game — one that would upend the conventions of the fledgling genre. Where other titles were gloomy and self-important, his would be brassy, colorful, and funny. Instead of playing as a faceless marine, gamers would play as Duke Nukem, “a combo of John Wayne, Clint Eastwood, and Arnold,” as Broussard described him. Broussard and Miller assembled a seven-person team to build the product. The pair had a knack for discovering talent: One of their recruits was a 17-year-old programmer from Rhode Island — barely out of high school — who created their game engine, the crucial piece of software that displays the 3-D world for the player. After a year and a half of work, Duke Nukem 3D was released online in January 1996.

Yeh I read this Article a while ago :) was quite interesting... and in the Video Interview George even said that during the making of DNF there was alot of WoW involved.... those guys are so stupid and lazy.... they lost money and they lost respect from the majority of their fan base...

They should've just released it with the quake 2 engine when the game was ready.
it would've been a hit

Nah Mike it wasnt the team. If your read the article it tells you how Broussard wanted to add every new thing he saw in a movie or game into DNF.

Its just a lack of deadline I think... I'm still holding thumbs for a release (hopefully Gearbox) :D

I blame George Broussard, he was the team leader... He failed to put in any effort... and if you also read... he would develop and then check that a new engine came out and start from scratch... he could have improvised...

Spending your working hours playing World of Warcraft instead of doing what you and your team have been payed to do is also not a good part on his side... tbh they let down alot of people and saying and I quote

Coming "When it's done"
that is certainly not making a name for yourself... unlike other companies who inform you of their upcoming titles and actually giving constant feedback and not just teaser trailers and images is how you actually know that the game THE ENTIRE world has been waiting for is actually being developed and some real time and effort is being put into it.

I have given up hope on waiting for this title to be released and when it does come out, all it will be is just another title... I think for most people the whole hype about DNF is over... yeh it can be sealed and delivered by another Dev team however it will never be the same again.

I understand I should let it go...

BUT!!!

I waited for 12 years, that's almost half of my life up till now! It was a sad day when Nuke Nukem ForNever was canceled and announced to be DEAD.

Well I felt like kicking ass and chewing bubblegum, and I was all out of gum.

Anyways HAIL TO THE KING!!!

May he rest in piece...

It won`t die

It has a big name and is still highly anticipated, which guarantees a lot of money. Someone else will pick it up. I just hope that those developers/publishers don`t tell anyone about it until they are about actually release it.

Yeah i think its still got plenty potential.

Well on the lighter side of things Jon St. John (the voice of duke) had this to say:

I’m not allowed to speak on that subject, sir.

He’s asking about Duke Nukem Forever, let me go ahead and tell you right now that I’m not allowed to talk about Dukem Nukem Forever.

No, no, don’t be disappointed, read between the lines… why am I not allowed to talk about it?
