Least and most reliable hard drives

Hitachi beats everyone. Note the wide confidence intervals for the first few drives before the HSGT drives. I own a few Hitachi drives and they work like a bomb. BTW PS4 has a Hitachi notebook drive.
 
Doesn't really seem to be brands, but rather specific models under each brand that do well.

There is a hidden lesson here though: The reason Backblaze has so much data on such a variety of drives is because the realised all brands & models are subject to failure so its best to spread your risk with with redundancy back by different models...that way they don't all crap at the same time/way.

It actually does seem to be in brands. You can ignore the first 3 as the low numbers used don't instill "confidence" in the results. HGST consistently tend to do better than the others for large numbers of drives. This is not new as Hitachi has a reputation for being superior.

While users should check out the actual data for more granular information, the big picture boils down to this: Over a three-year period, 3.1% of Hitachi's drives failed; 5.2% of Western Digital's drives died; and a sizable 26.5% of Seagate's drives failed.
