Dude! Big ups for the awesome build. That thread was super inspiring, it's really cool to see so much effort put into something you enjoy and then coming out with an end product that is EPIC! Definitely thinking of my own project now!

Thanks man. If anyone ever needs advice or have questions don't hesitate to ask. I have little experience but enough to assist anyone when it comes to building a desk.

Why do you have to fill them up? Some can be empty you know :)

20gigs of RAM, so you have 2 x 8GB sticks and 2 x 2GB ones?

That is correct indeed. It looks pretty! I have a lovely beast mobo... that is not complete. looks Meh and unbalanced! =D

i do multi task a lot. But have not monitored it recently, but no i don't think so! It definitely is a bit of Overkill i admit ! :)

I'm just wondering, since I'll be able to fill it all really quickly with simulations for work, yet I'm working on 4 GB. was working with 2GB until two months ago! :(

Eish, how did you survive on 2? I would say these days with good ram, 8-12 is usually more than enough !

I didn't :(

It all depends on what you do. I run Finite Element Analysis (FEA) often, and these simulations will litterally take all the ram you can throw at it. For small runs 4 GB is enough, but realistically I need 16.

So it just takes longer with less ram I presume?

Sometimes you need to perform some tricks to get it to run at all, sometimes you can't really get it accurate enough with too little ram, other times it just runs more slowly.

Needs more mesh!

I can remember doing FEA at University, and then crashing the computer because the mesh was too small. So you had to redo a lot of the work because the program sucked. Damn I hated that program.

It's gotten way better in the past few years, to the point where Solidworks' built in FEA utility is actually not too bad, and you have decent control of the mesh size with it. But we're waaaaaay off topic now! :D
