I have a very basic setup going - as I move around most of the time and require something lightweight as well as serve the purpose of a work machine when doing freelance;

MSI GT60 2OC
CPU -> 4th generation Intel® Core™ i7 Processor
OS -> Windows 10
Chipset -> Intel HM87 Chipset
Memory -> DDR3L,up to 1600 MHz, 4 slots, max 32GB (Currently 16GB)
Graphics -> Nvidia GeForce GTX 770M
Graphics -> VRAM GDDR5 3GB
Storage -> 384GB Super RAID 2 +1TB HDD 7200rpm
Optical Drive -> BD Writer / BD Combo / DVD Super Multi
Audio -> 2W X2 HD 2 Speakers, 1 subwoofer
Card Reader -> SD(XC/HC)
LAN -> Killer DoubleShot
Wireless LAN -> Killer DoubleShot
Bluetooth -> Bluetooth v4.0

I can't get ADSL where I currently live and if by some chance I get them to install a line for me, I am looking at a 6 month + waiting list - so 3G mobile data for now (one of those old 10GB by day, 10GB by night deals and I basically just use it for updates/ research but I really need to look at getting something else in the future).

Am I the only one here running a 3rd Gen i3 ? All I see are i5 and 7s.

Is this a case of "4 Cores or GTFO" :( ?

How's the gaming been on your cpu?

No need to worry further :)

Games run fine unless they're CPU intensive. Not sure if it's CPU-related, but, The Witcher 3 can st-t-t-t-tutter from time to time... :) . It's only really intense when load a new (or "new" area. Lots of AI on screen causes the same (like in Black Flag, for example).

Big open-world games causes tanking, but I'm not sure if it is CPU oR GPU-related as they're both pretty much running maxed out when stuttering occurs.

I'd be too embarassed to

Case in point, pretty sure I'm running a Core 2 duo

CPU - i3 2100 Sandybridge
GPU - Gigabyte 680 (thanks too Voicy forever!)
RAM - Kingston 8GB
PSU - Superchannel 750w

quite a modest machine barring the GPU. Plays the Witcher 3 on full high settings without issue. Happy days.

Hey you guys with liquid cooling. Does the pump make a noise or buzz like a fish tank pump? Or do they work differently?

I got a PC upgrade for my birthday, so now I'm running:

CPU - AMD FX-8370E
GPU - Radeon HD7870 XT
RAM - 8GB
PSU - Be Quiet! 480w

Not sure if a closed loop water cooler like the H100 counts but it's what I have and its is deathly quiet compared to a traditional air cooler. ;)
