Locked/closed threads annoy me...

I battle to see how people found the comp confusing:

1. The first post stated that users needed 20 posts on the forum before 19 Aug.
2. There was a list (made by sycogrim) that noted everyone who had posted in the thread and was eligible to win.
3. The winner was randomly selected from the pool of eligible entries.
4. The end.

So does that mean I don't have to post anymore because I will always have more than 20 posts ?

I already have 6,613 so that means when ever the next date comes up I will automatically be entered and already have exceeded the default 20 posts, right ?

So far the default "behaviour" was to make x amount of posts in a period of time before the end date. This normally spans from when you have posted "I've entered" in the competition thread up too the end date.

We got used to this and I can quite clearly understand the confusion and why some might feel that it's not a legal winner.

:edit
Can the post++ ers please take it to the TK as some of us is trying to converse here.

I think what should be done in actual fact, like I was discussing with Rustpuppet yesterday and he agreed is that the post count should be a minimum of 50posts entry requirement, not posting between eg: now and friday sort of thing, it just causes too many complications #1 and #2 Spam will be able to be seen from a mile away and those caught spamming would see their posts being deleted entirely so that they start from the beginning again or depending on the severity of what they are doing, if it's extreme then a perma ban. Like the guy who signed up twice and had a conversation with himself for a few days.

This sounds like a good enough solution, but how will you then encourage the new users after they have reached their 50 posts to continue contributing to the forum? In the short term this will be a solution to curb the spamming but in the long run most users will then just rock up when the next comp e-mail is sent out.

The voluminous new posts each day to find only few is decent is really not pleasant. A lot better way as you've put it.

Look, typing the rules properly out once, sticky it and then quote from it really isn't that much effort and it will certainly clear of some the confusion up.

Nothing more troublesome like a AUP/TOS which can be translated into many versions, we all know this.

Heres an idea,
mind you , not perfect but should stop spam in its tracks.
How about making use of the "Join Date" field ?
People who havent been a member for under 3 months and has less than x posts , cant enter the comp ?

I know the idea is for mygaming to get new forum members so I guess thats why they rather only look at the post count,
we just dont want people who only signed up today , to try and rush 50 forum posts to be eligible to enter a comp.

Its a hard sweet to chew but atleast if "Join Date" is used , youre looking at returning / dedicated forum members , not at people who can spam forum posts to enter.

Just my 2cents . :)

That might work, but it's problematic with clones. I can easily setup clones and have their post count raised to what I desire coming from different ips.

This is also bad for getting new people in that's the main point of the competitions as well as rewarding other members. Can't say new members would be feeling very welcome when they've joined up and can't enter.

I'd rather go with 50 minimum without need to spam to 50 in certain time frame :o

Or ......... encourage new members to sign up by offering a certain set of comps with a game/branded gear/etc as prizes, that require not much - 20 posts for example - but then have a set of comps that have more wow prizes (iPads/gaming bundles/whateveritmaybe) but have more requirements in place, for eg needing to be a member for x amount of months or needing 100 posts or whatever.
