Locked/closed threads annoy me...

So does that mean I don't have to post anymore because I will always have more than 20 posts ?

I already have 6,613 so that means when ever the next date comes up I will automatically be entered and already have exceeded the default 20 posts, right ?

No. You still have to enter by posting in the comp thread.

We can dance if we want to
We can leave your friends behind
Cause your friends don't dance
And if they don't dance
Well they're no friends of mine

Or ......... encourage new members to sign up by offering a certain set of comps with a game/branded gear/etc as prizes, that require not much - 20 posts for example - but then have a set of comps that have more wow prizes (iPads/gaming bundles/whateveritmaybe) but have more requirements in place, for eg needing to be a member for x amount of months or needing 100 posts or whatever.
+1 Great idea! Definitely the best way of making sure the locals get stoked and mygaming builds its userbase.

You know, I've often wondered why that thread is still hanging around after all these years

EDIT: Oh look, it's just been closed. LOL

I've made that suggestion myself as well.

But basically, in the end, the Exclus1ves comp manages to run pretty well ... the post requirement isn't harsh and it lets the newer members get their feet wet. A couple of the guys who happen to be regulars now were a bit wishy-washy with their posts in the beginning, but most of them seem to be chatting away fairly regularly and integrating themselves pretty well.

Those that had a habit of spamming to get their ten posts in have long since disappeared. The iPad comp was unfortunately an invitation to spam - it's a big (and expensive prize) that a lot will want to get their paws on, and the announcement went out to the entire myBB mailing list - so there were going to be a lot of chancers.

I'm in agreement with comp threads being locked - as Rusty said, they've served their purpose - also, take a mild guess at how many people still try and enter the comp a week after it's over. Lomek's thread - fyi, I asked Tinny and Rusty to intervene there - was also locked for good reason, there was no reasonable debate going on there, and I saw things moving in a bad direction - I happen to enjoy my time on these forums and I don't enjoy seeing pissy threads going up. And Lomek was acting like a spoiled teenager.

You okes realise it was merely an Ipad up for grabs. Whoopee. Now if it had been a prize to win say a hamper of Twilight goodies or tickets to see Justine Bieber live in Benoni, I could understand the anger, but all this for just an Ipad? Let it go.

This. End of story.

That's not a bad idea, how about also adding that the entrant also needs to be somewhat active on the forum ie a certain number of posts per month... something like that...

As long as it is a reasonable amount and not something which is hard to achieve for some people like 100 posts in a month or more

If everything is just to be swept under the carpet without giving others the ability to clear things up, even if it's for not for themselves ( as in this case as I've pointed out I can very well understand why the confusion as explained can happen ) we might as well just stop right here and alt+F4.

There is no harm as far as I can see as we've had quite a few good ideas and now you just want to come in here and limp on about ag just shut the fuck up. seriously.

The idea put forward by some here and rustpuppet that an entry amount is needed that does not mean you have to spam everything to death might actually work really good. It be great if this can be tossed around more.

At no point were we just bitching and moaning (from where I joined in); go hop onto mybroadband and look at the bemoanage about custom avatars.

Well in theory the amount of locked threads on this forum should have declined in the last few months since I rarely ever post on here anymore :)

After reading this thread about half an hour ago and having nothing to add... I find myself chilling while humming...
"We can dance
We can dance
We're doing it more and more
We can dance
We can dance
Everybody look at your hands"

:P aaah... sigh...

:( I don't think that post deserved negative rep. Especially when its negative rep with "nice post ++" attached to it... what is that? two positives making a negative? That is mathematically incorrect...

How does the rep system work anyway? I had 17, I get one negative rep and now I'm on 10.. Sometimes I get 1 positive rep and it gives me 2 or something. Can anyone tell me whats going on there?

Also, perhaps we could have a sort of self regulating competition system. Where people post, but spammers get negative rep from the community and people with negative rep at the end of the comp, will not be considered. Kind of ironic that I suggest this when I myself have just recieved -7 rep, but it could work (potentially).

Sometimes people click the wrong option, judging by the comment I'm guessing one of my + was suppost to be -

Ah. okay... I forgives you :) still don't understand how rep varies so much :/ like lose 7 points sometimes and gain 2 sometimes etc... Just doesn't make sense. I'd have assumed it would be a +1, -1 system.
