Long-term study finds zero link between violence in video games and real life.

Surprise! Just like rock and roll, dungeons and dragons and metal, games will one day be free of most of the stigma. But it's going to take a few more studies to convince most lawmakers.

I've actually seen graphs before comparing violent game releases and murder rates, and they also showed a decrease when their were new games around. I figure for most people, the games might actually be an outlet rather than actually making people more violent, it's a safe place to vent some frustration.

Mmm, I'm not sure that any amount of evidence will ever be able to convince them otherwise.

I dont worry about other peoples opinions on gaming, Its something i enjoy, people can think whatever they want to...

Not the graphs I was thinking of (which showed individual game releases and the crime rates at the time), but here are some interesting stats.

Sales of Video Games Compared to Youth Violence, 1996-2005
youthviolencevideogamechart.jpg

I think we've heard more about violent youth crimes in the past 20 or so years because of the internet, social media etc.

In 1996 when the youth violent crime rate was high (see graph above) international news wasn't followed as closely as it is now.

So it only seems that youth violence has increased...
