Looking for a good racing game with lots of customization.

^like the title says.

I need something to keep me busy when i'm not in the mood to play other games,i tried trackmania but everyone just sees who can get the fastest time on the track which i find boring since i can't find any of Sunny's speed tracks.

So any suggestions on racing games that allow customization down to the engine and up to the body work and paint job.Anything released between 2011 and 2013.
 
Well, the new Most Wanted wasn't too bad. It had customization, from what I can remember, but it lacked a certain sense of progression because you didn't have to win vehicles, you unlocked them in the world.

Aside from that, I can't really think of any decent racing games that released in the last three years. They just don't make them like they used to.

That said, I really hope the upcoming Grid 2 scratches my racing-game itch a bit.
 
Shift 2 had plenty to customise with car characteristics and set-up. I'm not really sure though of a recent entry with that same level of freedom.
Last 3 NFS haven't touched customisation and then there have been some sim racers but they don't do that either.

I checked this and I have to say we have kinda been starved here.

My list would be Shift 2, Grid (dated but still great) and maybe Dirt 3 and The run was great (just limited with themes for cars though)
 
Why not just get Most wanted ( the first one) it still look's okay..... :p but with a few texture packs it's look better :)

That's why I only looked at the time line. Still I wouldn't criticise NASCAR drivers, it takes balls to drive a car with that much power and the same tech as a Chana, those things are amazingly simple.

Because i played it through 6 times when i was younger.

Thanks for the help guys,going to give Shift 2 a try.
 
Well the guys I hang out with prefer NFS Underground 2, as they say it has a lot of customization and various cars.
 
If you playing shift 2 ,you should really check out the speed hunters pack ..its awesome ,lets you drag race and adds extra cars.
Really makes the game much more exciting ,about 6 car drag ...loads of fun.

The speeds hunters pack is around 750-800mb .
 
Well when I read racing games I think of:

rFactor, rFactor 2 (still in paid beta but already great mods out and having lots of fun), Game Stock Car 2012, Formula Truck (epic fun, pre-ordered so got it earlier should be out in a week or 2) and then Assetto Corsa will be out later this year too and the Tech Demo is already look and feeling EPIC.
