Looking for a laptop

So I'm looking for a laptop for my wife. She is studying part time and the workload for this year is crazy, so she needs a laptop so she can work on assessments and projects while she is at work and they are quiet (she is an ER Nurse).

It doesn't have to be anything flashy, she will basically be working in Word and Power Point, and will be browsing the net for information.

I have looked at Carbonite as well, and there seem to be some great deals available on 2nd hand laptops, however my problem is this: my knowledge in terms of good laptop brands is non-existent. I know what components she would need, but as far as I know not all brands are equal.

What laptop brands do you guys use or do you know are good?

My work laptop is a Toshiba and it sucks, so I already have a predisposition against Toshiba.

I don't really want to spend more than R6k, but can spend a tad more if convinced it would be worth it. I just don't want a deathly slow laptop, because that is just frustrating no matter who you are.

There is a guy selling a Lenovo Thinkpad T450 on Carb, and it looks like a nice laptop. Reviews do show that the screen is quite crap though.

Look, I'm not saying it's the best laptop about, neither is it the worst. I'll get specs to you tonight, but it's more than capable of doing the norm (internet, email, word, excel, etc.).

I take it you're more than capable of reloading it if needed?

Yeah I can reload it if required, don't worry. If I find anything important looking I'll also back it up.

Can tell you now there's nothing needed on it. In fact I think I'm actually locked out of it.

A little history:
I was given two of the same "broken" laptops (Dell something something). One the screen doesn't work, and the other the HDD was shot. I think you can guess what I did... so really no need to even return it if you wanna keep it (or your wife).
