Looking to buy a laptop

Hi guys
I am looking to buy a laptop on behalf of someone else.
Price range is between 5 and 5.5.
Any suggestions on what to get.
Looking for a good performance / aesthetic one so no Compaqs.
Maybe Samsung, Asus, Gigabyte or Dell.
 
The Fujitsu Siemens range offer great prices vs performance. I have owned one and it was great.

Makro sell them.
 
Thanks for the suggestion. Fujitsu are generally not that pleasing in the looks department (at least as far as I reckon).
I recommended a Toshiba Satelite, Packard Bell, HP Pavillion, Lenovo Ideapad. So now just gotta wait and see which one she picks, if any.

Yup they would... just go on the link I sent you. Email them and ask them. just keep in mind, their prices are COD specials. Card prices go up about R100...

Well it would be EFT. Honestly I am a lil skeptical about going for a laptop from somewhere so far should there be a problem down the line, but will keep them in mind should this person not like any of the other ones.
 
Well, I can get you prices for what is available. Only thing that could pose a problem is if it breaks within the warranty period.

Thanks for the suggestion, will check them out. Durbanville is very far from where I am, well 50 odd k's. So it would need to be couriered. I found a nice'ish HP AMD quad core which she likes otherwise I have found a Packard Bell Easynote i5 which is also looking tasty. It pushes up her budget a little but could be well worth it.

The quad core sounds good to me. Got more specs for us? Model number? Glad I could help you a little Simon.

It is the quad core A6 3400m. The problem is that it is clocked at 1.4ghz with turbo pushing it to 2.1 so it is a lil slower clocked. I was advised that the i3 2330m is considerably faster and even for a few extra bucks to this AMD there is the 2430m i5 which is even faster.
The only problem is is what you gain on the roundabout you lose on the swing, harddrive size, version of windows, gpu power etc.
