Looking to start World of Warcraft

Hi guys.

So as the title says, I'm looking to start wow. I've played on private servers up to WotLK patch 3.3.5a from the beginning of this year, but it was bugged and just not a good experience. I did however get a good look at how the game is, and it gave me enough motivation to pay and get the better experience.

I want to play Cata, but I have none of the packs. I have looked on Take2 and I can get all 4 for R533. Now, what i want to know, should I go and order via Take2, or should I buy the digital download from Blizzard's WoW site? I've also looked on gumtree, and some people are selling their games, mostly unused, should I also look at that option?

Thanks.

Nothing wrong with the digital versions if you don't want the boxed versions to roll around in the bed with. I would however get the client from someone, saving the downloads of the patches :)

I'd rather not buy an existing account though.

Ok. I don't mind getting the retail/boxed versions. My friends have patched clients, I can get patches from them as well, I think. ANd I don't want to buy an account - want to level characters and besides, the accounts are expensive and against Blizzard's rules I think?

I heard there was also another way - to pay for the first, and then upgrade to cata? It costs $10 on the battle.net site, but now how much does it cost to upgrade to cata? I heard it was $5 to TBC, $10 to WotLK, and then $30 to Cata? Thanks.

Me and one of my friends also recently started playing WoW. We bought Vanilla WoW and BC from BTGames for like R100 (for both of them, not R100 each). I haven't seen anyplace with a good price on WotLK but Take2 is selling Cata for R170 which I think is an great price.

We decided to go and pay the $10 for classic wow, I'm going to play until level cap, then upgrade, level cap, etc. until I reach cata. It's going to be less of a strain on the budget :)

I'd do the Take2 option. The Digital Downloads are ridiculously overpriced. 40 Euros for Cataclysm and you're not even getting a CD. Fuck that.

I'm going to go US version as it is much cheaper to do. The subs are in $, so are the games and I REALLY don't feel like paying extra for the same game. Sure, there will be a little bit of lag on the US servers, but I'm moving to the US when I get out of HS next year, so it's quite fine and then I have a US account and server with low latency.

(The edit button malfunctions under FF5...)

Just wanted to say that I'm gonna go for the EU realm as my friends play on a server there and can help me. The money issue is not one anymore :)

Kiss your life goodbye.

Best thing I ever did was sell my account. Wasted 5 years of my life on shit.

Tell me more.

What time period did you play? (age range)

How would you compare the last few years of your life vs those?

But why?

Heh, anyway.. I played between 2005 and 2010. Started when I was 19. During those 5 years I was a hobo sitting in front of my PC all day and night. When I was in college, all I could think about was playing WoW.. Eventually I flunked because of it.

This game really is a drug. And if you have an addictive personality, stay the fuck away from it.

I burned out a couple of times. Think I quit for 6 months and then came back when Wrath was released. But those 6 months were pretty insane. My friends roped my away and had fun times. I re-invented myself (as you would come to know) and started gaining skills in the real world with woman..But the lure of Wrath pulled me back and ya. Back to being a hobo.

Eventually I got gatvol of everything. I was like, whats the point of amassing all this pixelated(sp) loot when I should be out with mates, partying and banging chicks?

And so I quit last year July/August. Haven't looked back since.

I sold my account couple days ago, and burnt all the copies of the game. Was quite... liberating.

See this is the primary failure in any argument against World of Warcraft. I went through the same thing you described, just between 13-16(ish). Eventually I quit, convinced I should be out with mates, partying and (trying to) bang chicks. Then I tried that and realized that neither life style is particularly admirable or correct, and you're better off finding a moderation.

So now I play WoW a couple nights a week. I go out, do what I enjoy and I don't do anything in excess, because in reality, both of those things will be bad if they consume your life (partying or WoWing).

And it's not really that because you party you're out 'living life,' you're just substituting your addiction to World of Warcraft with something more socially acceptable.

That said, if you are gonna play WoW, don't let it consume your life. Seriously. It's dangerous.

Time Management.
