Mafia; interest gauging and signup thread.

The Elder Scrolls: Mafia - signup thread

Hey, I would just like to know, would any of you be interested in a game of Mafia? For now I only want to gauge the interest in a forum game because the specific format I'm thinking of doing requires a certain amount of players in order to work properly, so it's not going to work if we don't have enough people.

If you don't know what Mafia is, the Mafia Wiki is a very good place to start. It's really fun, but do note that if you wish to play you're going to have to be available to post and vote at least once a day (and some of you will have to be available for nightly votes) between Monday and Friday. The game will only run on weekdays, because most of us are busy over weekends and that makes participation a bit difficult. The minimum participation is posting at least once a day in the thread, but the more often you can post and interact with fellow players, the better for you.

So, if you're interested in playing please post your name in bold in this thread, as well as whether you've played Mafia before and I'll compile a list of names. I'm going to give everyone until Friday, because ideally I want to start the game next week Monday.

The theme for the game will be Elder Scrolls.

Confirmed players:

Insanity
Piesank
Cara
Fafa
Roomys ZA

MyBB is already the cesspit of this stupid game, don't let it darken this forum too thank you very much.

P.S - that would be a huge no

I love playing Mafia, we have our own sub forum in myBB. But without a big player base games will die out quickly, I'm more than willing to join a game here.

I'm going to have to agree with Insanity. I don't get why a Mafia game is such a bad thing. It's a nice way for forum members to play together and interact amongst each other. You don't have to participate in the thread if you really don't want to.

Besides, the game I'm planning is not quite the same as those being done on the MyBB forums. Their games are a bit too fast-paced for me and I often feel they're not quite as fleshed out as the games I usually enjoy playing. I'm planning something a tiny bit more elaborate.

If the negative response is too large I'll drop it and see if I can't host the game on another forum, though. Just thought it would be nice to have a forum game going here.

I saw it on MyBB. It looks interesting and fun but baie ingewikkeld....

It's not quite that difficult. Take for example the last Mafia game I played; the setting was a hotel that got locked down by police. 5 of the players were undercover police officers and 5 others were thieves. The rest of the players were innocents. 5 innocents each had a valuable artifact that only that specific person knew he/she had and it was the thieves objective to find all the artifacts (which would make them win the game) and the police had to try to find and detain all the criminals (which would make them win the game). Every day players would vote to detain one person, which would reveal his/her alignment and then after the daily vote a nightly vote would open, where police officers could secretly vote to detain one person (which would reveal his alignment and remove him from the game) and criminals could secretly vote to search one person's room, which would grant them an artifact if that person was an artifact carrier. There were a few specialty roles as well, but most of them had their identities anonymous and their special actions were also performed in secret so most players never even knew about them.

It's been a while since that game so some of the details might not be entirely accurate, but it should more or less illustrate how the game works. The learning curve is not very steep and I've found it usually takes newcomers no more than a week to get into the groove of things.

Okay that makes kinda sense to me. I'm in if you will go slow and give the newbies chance to get into it!:D

That sounds similar to my first ever mafia game.

Yeah, it requires quite a few people though. I would say the minimum required for the game I'm planning would be 20, but the more players the more I can flesh out the game.

No from me as well, if people wanna play it, go play it on eae or mybb. It is a way to spam more posts for entry int comps, that doesnt contribute in a positive way to the forum.
Yet it is a forum game funny how a site dedicated to gaming would shun this? So all posts about farmville or D&D should be considered spam from now on. . .

Oh ffs, stop being such negative nellies. God forbid we play a forum game on a forum.

Looking at your post history, you almost exclusively post in TK on these forums. The irony in your post is almost palpable.

Now please tell me, what is the difference between you posting in TK and other people participating in a forum game? If you're worried about post whoring for competitions, I would actually say a forum game such as Mafia contributes a lot more of worth than TK does.
