Mass Effect 3 makes future titles difficult

Mass Effect is by far my favourite gaming franchise and I cannot wait to see the ending (multiple ones) of the Shepard story arc. I would like to see them expand on the Mass Effect universe in the future with some more awesome games, but I really would not like to see it being milked into a sad shadow of what it is at the moment.

By doing this they ensure there is not "God of War IV" type scenario for Shepard and for this I am grateful to BioWare, the same way I am grateful to Chris Nolan for stopping with The Dark Knight Rises.

@Avenged: Have your read any of the Mass Effect Novels? They show how much potential the extended Universe has without relying on Shepard to drive the story.

absolutely agree with you guys. a series should end gracefully, and not be milked for money. thats why i hope they don't make any further Mass Effect, Gears or Uncharted titles, much as I loved both those series

Not yet mate. There are some awesome graphic novels that are on show at Cosmic Comics in JHB which I really want to pick up the next time that I go do my monthly pickup, which are apparently not bad. I am keen to get more into this universe, as I feel that it is well created and quite imaginative.

Yeah I reckon after this one it's time for a fresh perspective. Mass Effect: The Old Republic? :p

The Mass Effect universe is absolutely amazing and well thought out and by far my favourite. I'm not a big Starwars fan (even though the Mass Effect idea was derived from Starwars) so Mass Effect is basically the only proper space genre game I can think of.

I have no problem with them completely switching main characters for future games because if they tried to stick with Shepard, they'd soon run out of stories to tell. The enemies also don't need to be over-the-top like the Reapers (it could just as well have been Cerberus or a terrorist group or something).

So I'm also glad they are ending the Shepard arc, but not the universe... That said, I wouldn't mind if a couple of games down the line they decide to bring him out of retirement to come and help with some situation with the new hero or something.

Mass Effect 3 is going to be the Return of the Jedi of our generations.

Personally, I find Mass Effect's universe much more compelling than the Star Wars Universe.

Is because it links to a future that is imaginable where as Star Wars is more of a Fantasy Sci-fi with little linking it to Earth. Same reason people like Star Trek more than Star Wars.

I think that is probably true. The light sabres, the force and furry creatures never really appealed to me.
I'm still trying to force myself to play through SW:KOTOR, but that is probably painful due to the age of the game rather than being part of the Starwars universe.

In addition to whatever I said earlier... I hope that when they do release future titles, that it is also in the form of trilogies... The idea behind save game importing to continue your own story increased the re-playability of all the games in the series not to mention the increased anticipation for the next game.
