Mass Effect 3 Thread

I might actually try that. Otherwise it's a two hour download that I'll have to wait for and that will be torture...

Yeah, I'm going to start downloading it now. It's not like I can really lose anything more than a few hours of not being able to play BF3 while it downloads today. If it doesn't work on Friday, at least I can say I tried. :P

Its only 650Mb, why will it take so long?

Because I'm on a 384 line?

Also why is the DLC not being on the disc bad, its DLC (Downloadable Content) not ODC (On Disc Content). With Mass Effect 2 everybody moaned that the DLC from the Cerberus Network was on disc now they complain because its not on the disk :wtf:

Come on, we both know the people who complain about stuff like that are the people who spend all day complaining about every single tiny little thing about videogames. The kind of people who complain for the sake of complaining. :p

I see no issue with release day DLC being on the disc. It's actually rather convenient, even for people who have really fast connections. If someone complains because they're being convenienced, they aren't worth listening to. ;)

OUCH! If I'm lucky I'll get 17mb/s... so at most it will take me 40min :p

I think I'll just post this back at you.

There is a nice Critical release over at Gamasutra out of which I want to highlight the following:

The new multiplayer component isn't as successful, however. "Mass Effect 3's greatest problem is its new multiplayer system," Carsillo asserts. "And it's not the fact that it's an amalgamation of Battlefield 3's class system with Gears of War's Horde mode, as I love both of those games' multiplayer options. No, my problem lies in the fact that you're pretty much forced into playing the multiplayer in order to unlock the best possible ending in the single-player mode."

"Mass Effect 3 is still an awesome game overall, of course, as the few negatives just happen to stand out against what is an otherwise mostly blemish free experience," Carsillo admits. "The conclusion to the story is phenomenal, the action's great with legions of new and old enemies alike, and the multiplayer's fun and addictive, even if I don't like how it affects your single-player campaign."

Source

Now, IMHO, the extension of the Multiplayer component ties in closely with the Singleplayer campaign it has to be fun & addictive otherwise it just wouldn't work. I can understand why having it as a resource needed for the best ending would be frustrating if you are not MP inclined. However I am pretty sure there is a way to still get the best ending without playing any MP, it will possibly just take longer to get your Galactic Readiness up hight enough.

Thoughts on the Co-Op Mp tying in with the over all SP campaign?

I don't really like it. I want to play my single player games, single player. Now I have to play multiplayer to see all the singleplayer content available.

Imo, multiplayer, even co-op, should always be optional. Its effect on the SP should be minimal, limited to cosmetics or perhaps the odd weapon or two.

It's the only part of ME3 that I'm a bit antsy about, mostly because I really don't like online co-op.

I think it was a bad idea. I don't like being forced to do MP to get rewarded with SP content. I was always going to play the MP, but only after finishing the SP, now I have to break away and do the MP which is quite lame imo.

If I where incharge of that part of the game's design I would have made it an optional extra that adds to your Galactic readiness but still making it possible to get on without needing the MP.

I as a test I am going to replay one FemShep Soldier Twice, once while playing the MP on the side, once without touching the MP or the iOS app, all the while making the exact same decisions and then see what different result I get come end game.

What about if they included AI bots? My curiosity is purely academic since I want to design games and from a Design standpoint, without factoring in player preference (which I know is important), the idea of making the Co-Op MP compliment the MP seems liek a good idea.

It's the same reason why unlocking stuff for multiplayer through single player is a bad idea, people have different reasons for playing each and forcing you to do one or the other reduces player enjoyment. If I'm in the mood just to go and get myself immersed in this awesome single player campaign there is no ways I want to be forced into finding a buddy or hitting match making to player multiplayer. Sure you're technically not forced, but as a gamer if I KNOW I'm not getting the best ending then it basically is like forcing to go play something I don't want to. Same thing if SP had the best gun unlocks, or something similar, in a game like Battlefield, you are forcing me to do something I don't want to just so I can be better at the mode I actually want to be playing.

SC2 did this pretty well, giving you cosmetic items to show off but something you could completely ignore if you wanted to.

If they add bots, I still won't be thrilled about the idea, but I'll be willing to put up with it. It's other people I don't want to deal with.

How does not having weapon X, which is unlocked in MP, a bad thing when you have Weapon A though W from SP. Do your really NEED that gun? You could apply this importing all unlocked weapons from ME2 into ME3. So now they are forcing you to do it? No they are giving you an incentive to do it. If you dont cool, use the weapons provided in SP.

While I can understand the War Assets argument (needed the War assets from MP to get best ending) you dont need the extra items that you unlock in MP to get that same best ending.

LOL! I though I was the people Hater :p

You can play it by yourself but its fucking hard. I tried and died before the all the enemies from the first wave had even spawned.

I'm also not keen on the multiplayer component, however, I do kinda like the idea how Bioware has brought the two together. It is something new and different.
That said, I'm going to have to request people from here to play the multiplayer with. I'm a casual gamer and my friends aren't really into gaming.

I haven't played ME3 I just read about unlocking the best ending through multiplayer [since I'm trying to avoid most ME3 discussions], which I said feels silly.

Also why do you need an incentive to play SP or MP, why can't you just play what you want since you bought the game. Even if playing MP only unlocks one gun out of 20, you are still telling me I'm not getting the full single player experience unless I play multiplayer.

Matchmaking works wonders thought that was on Xbox. I have already lined up my co-op buddies.

According to what I understand to get the same result without the MP you basically have to do 90% + of the side quests. Which most short attention span gamers consider boring/tedious. We know planet scanning has been trimmed and nothing can be as boring/tedious as that.

AC:B brought MP to the AC franchise. While it was well received it never really took off. I myself played it only once, decided the worst thing about it is the other people. I think Bioware giving us an incentive to play the MP is an attempt to get players interested.

I dont understand how that one gun means your not getting the full experience? Do you have all the weapon packs for ME2? I know I dont (I bought 1 pack just coz I had a 120MS points lying around) and in none of my 4 playthroughs have I ever thought, if only I had bought the equalizer pack.

I don't hate people, I just hate having to work with them in multiplayer. I can handle competitive multiplayer, but co-operative multiplayer is something I abhor. I think it's got to do with the fact that anonymous people in co-op like to be assholes, like do stupid shit and get themselves killed, then blaming you, etc.

That said, people do make mistakes, and I do so myself frequently. I don't like that feeling that I made a mistake and I've let other people down through it. It also places a fair bit of pressure on you to perform due to the fact that others are depending on you, pressure which I don't really have in SP.

All round, I just prefer SP to co-operative multiplayer. I like to rely on myself, and hold myself accountable for mistakes.
