Mass Effect: Andromeda

Sorry guys but I'm going to skip multiplayer. Getting a bit tired of the game. The further I get into the SP campaign the more disappointed I become in Andromeda.

It looks great and I really like the multiplayer which gave me a lot of joy but the single player is really not grabbing me. It feels like the same thing over and over again. This worked for me in Inquisition because the exploration, story and lore made me want more and more. In Andromeda all the areas feel the same and the stories don't feel like they matter. People don't act like they would in the situation that they are in and it all just don't feel like a Mass Effect game.

I'm hoping that the story improves. I'm currently in what looks like the 4th habitable planet. Almost finished with it.

Thanks. I guess this affirmed my suspicions and I don't think I will be buying this.

You didn't like the previous Mass Effect games so you'll probably like this one.

You want to try that one again?

Were you supposed to say; "You didn't like the previous Mass Effect games so you'll probably not like this one" ?

Hehe no, I said what I wanted to say. This one isn't like the previous Mass Effect games so you'll probably like this one because you didn't like the previous ones.

Unless, of course he wouldn't like this style of game either.

Well because of EA Access I am playing the 10 hour trial, which I am about 2 hours in and quite enjoying it. I have stopped playing because I don't want to play more if I plan on getting it. Though one thing I have always worried about is exactly what you have highlighted. I don't mind some fetch quests, but when it's done in a very repetitive manner in areas that are barren/lifeless (which is kinda how I read your sum up), this is enough to put me off.

We need more input however! Maybe it's just me.

That is what i am struggling with as well, I am on the 4th or 5th planet, and i am struggling like mad to finish it. I am bored with the side quests but I need to get all the crew to loyal. So that is all I am doing now, and then the main quest, I have stopped doing the 10million addisional tasks as well as listening to all the chatter, I have become a spacebar junkie

I've got 4 planets up to 100% viability, and have 2 more queued up in my priority ops missions. I don't even bother looking for minerals or hidden caches anymore unless I just happen to pass over something on the way to something else. The vaults are repetitive, but I like the suduko-esque puzzles. I do most missions, as long as there is a marker on my map. I did enjoy driving around the desert planet.

I must be over 60 hours in. I haven't played much in the past week or so, as I'm also getting a little bored. MP helps, but the constant crashes to homescreen are putting me off that as well, however that is apparently being fixed in the upcoming patch.

It's not just you. I did wrote this a while ago and it still stands:

This is for me the indication that this game is way inferior to the previous ones. With both ME2 and ME3, on release I basically finished them in the first weekend. Played non-stop and didn't get bored once. I don't know how long I've been playing this one now but it feels like forever and I get bored often.

This really is like Dragon Age in space and while that was a great game, if I wanted to play Dragon Age... I'd be playing Dragon Age. As with all games that go open world (except maybe for Witcher 3), you get disconnected from the story and characters and now you're running around in different areas / planets having to do the same thing over and over for each planet. It's like ME has lost its identity. They should have rather kept the game shorter and focused more on the story and replayability. While this isn't a bad game, once I'm done with it, I don't see myself playing this again.

I did finish the game however and I really liked the main story (Hunting the Archon and further). I usually try to complete everything so I got bored so many times before I eventually got to the interesting part. They waste way too much time on nonsense making the game so long that I feel it has zero replayability.
I still think they should have kept the structure, engine and length of the previous games and just replaced the story and graphics. They had the winning recipe all along.

I finally have time to play and now it wants to update.

I enjoyed the gameplay, enjoyed the overall plot, but the side quest design and writing were really bad. Understand I don't like criticising writing and I don't do it lightly -- as a writer I know how it feels to have someone tear into your work.

Andromeda is the kind of game where the environments are more interesting than many of the characters. The supporting characters are not as inspired/inspiring as those from the original Mass Effects, and the alien species just don't seem to offer anything... novel. The pacing in the development of relationships is also off, whether romantic or platonic.

While the narrative reason for the new leveling/character build mechanic was a little hamfisted (and not thought all the way through, it seems), I found the playstyle diversity it unlocked a lot of fun. I spent hours messing around with builds and gun augmentation combinations.

Once I found a really fun build, combat became amazingly fun. The fun builds, evading, and jetpacking in Andromeda coaxed me out of my usual hang-back-and-snipe (Infiltrator) style of playing Mass Effect, and got me right in the thick of the action with a shotgun. That was rad.
