Early Friday, ten people were killed and dozens more were injured after a suspect opened fire at a midnight screening, outside Denver.

Colorado NBC affiliate 9 News is reporting that 14 were killed in the shooting and at least fifty injured.


The shooting happened in a movie theater in Aurora, Colorado, which is a Denver suburb.
Tear gas was set off in the theater, followed by gunfire. Some theatergoers thought they heard firecrackers or that the gunshots were part of the movie. Some of the bullets apparently injured theatergoers in an adjacent theater.


According to witnesses, the suspect entered the theater through the emergency exit and then began making his way up the aisle, shooting audience members, including children.


The suspect, who was wearing a gas mask and a bulletproof vest, is in police custody. Authorities discovered the suspect near his car. He had a rifle and a handgun. Police do not believe there was a second shooter.

Wow, this is fucked up beyond belief. I think the scariest thing about this is that it could happen to anyone. Imagine being some place with your friends and some guy just decides to go postal. It could be anywhere, any time. To think that the world is full of psychos like this guy is truly scary.

Yeah, its so random, like that guy that killed all those kids in Norway. First Heath Ledger buys it before the premier of The Dark Knight and now this for the Dark Knight Rises, a more superstitious person would say this trilogy is cursed.

I'd say this planet is cursed. I'd say there's so much of this kuk happening these days, but then again, it probably has been like this since forever. We just didn't have the news to report all these stories. Sad, really. :/ Truly no hope for the human race?
 
That is seriously messed up. Although these things tend to happen far more often in the States than other places, at least from what I've seen.
 
What the hell? Why is there always some crazy guy going somewhere and killing a bunch of people for no particular reason?
On a lighter note, (probably going to sound a bit off) I would be so pissed if I got shot before I could see the end of this movie.
 
The Dark Knight Rises premiere set for Paris has been cancelled following a mass shooting that left 12 dead in the US town of Aurora in Colorado, reports People.

Police have revised the death toll to 12 after 14 were feared dead, according to reports.

The red carpet premiere was set to take place at the Champs-Elysees on Friday night but Warner Bros cancelled all interviews related to the movie opening as well at the actual premiere.

The Dark Knight Rises director Christopher Nolan and stars Christian Bale, Anne Hathaway and Morgan Freeman are at Paris' hotel Le Bristol to promote the film. However, journalists present at le Bristol for a daytime press conference were told to leave.

A French website posted photos of crew taking down the red carpet and Batman-shaped archway at the Paris premiere venue.

The cancellation comes after 12 moviegoers who attended a midnight screening of the movie in Aurora were killed by a masked man and a suspected accomplice who opened fire at the crowded movie theatre.

Fifty others are believed to have been also injured in the incident, the youngest victim was reported to be a three-month-old baby.

Police have since arrested the suspect who was said to be heavily armed in a parking lot of the movie house.

According to witnesses, the attack began when a canister of tear gas was thrown into the crowd through an emergency exit door.

The suspect then opened fire on his helpless victims.

The apprehended suspect has been named as 24-year-old local James Holmes.

What Is 9gag and Why Is It Being Blamed for the Colorado Shooting?

As people cast about for some explanation for the horrific shooting in Aurora, Colo., rumors have spread on Twitter and other social networks that the meme-swapping message board 9gag was somehow responsible, and that the 24-year-old suspect James Holmes had posted about his plan to shoot up a theater yesterday. They're almost certainly false.

Two screenshots have been making the rounds: One supposedly shows that yesterday a 9gag user named "9gagFTW" posted a meme-like image of a theater with text-overlay reading "TOMORROW I WILL KILL EVERYONE DURING THE NEW BATMAN PREMIERE IN COLORADO." Another supposedly shows another 9gag user celebrating after the shooting: "WE DID IT! WE GOT HIM TO ACTUALLY SHOOT IN THE THEATER!." The idea being that 9gag egged him on. This story has been picked up by at least one local Colorado newspaper. And New York Times Jennifer Preston reporter is apparently chasing the story: In a now-deleted tweet to the official 9gag account she wrote "Please call me. Urgent.... Something you need to know."


But I am 99 percent certain this is fake. Because this is an old 4chan trick. Often after a notable shooting happens, 4chan users spread fake screenshots that show the perpetrator was a 4chan user and had posted of his plans beforehand on 4chan. Recently, for example a 4chan user trolled the media by pretending to be posting from inside a home that was besieged by police. It's sort of an instant online urban legend. 9gag is basically a safe-for-work 4chan clone, where users share images and memes, and they've apparently picked up the same stupid prank.


The user 9gagFTW does exist, but hasn't posted anything about a shooting and lists their location as Peru. It was probably a prank played by him, or by someone trying to smear him. Meanwhile, someone on 4chan is pretending to be one of the shooters who got away, according to this screenshot that's being passed around. That is just as legit.
