Mechanical Keyboard

Hi there

I love my g15 but I feel like getting new keyboard. i want to go mechanical but don't know what to get. What brand do I get and what switches. I'm looking for something without a keypad as it's smaller that way. I mainly play FPS games. I heard red is not good cause it's only good for gaming and it's not so good for typing. I'm looking for something that's as small as this one

I'm in the Pretoria area so if there is some place where I can test it i would appreciate it.

Thanks

Well as far as my knowledge goes, red and black switches are mostly for gaming even though they can be used for typing where as blue and brown switches are mainly for typing. Got myself the CM Storm Quick Fire Pro and i'm loving it. All depends on user preference i guess.

What switches do you have on it? Maybe I should try that Zalman one. If I don't like it that much then so be it at least it's not super expensive as I buy from suppliers

I'm actually looking for a mech keyboard as well, I currently have cheapo Genius keyboard.

However, do not want a noisy keyboard like the mechs' are, I believe you get different "switches" for them?

iThank you sir!

Must these switches be bought separately or do they come with the mech keyboards?

The switches are a part of the keyboard so you have to choose a keyboard with the switch you would like. An example of the Brown switch keyboard:

Mine has the red switches. Their really comfortable and they don't take much pressure for the key to respond.

The Zalman is not a good mech board, the break incredibly easily, switches break off like nothing, so rather spend the extra and get a Corsair or Coolermaster.

Unless you really want the macro keys, I don't suggest the Logitech. It's expensive and not very well regarded in the mech keyboard community ( yes there are several of these communities) I would recommend a Cooler Master (preferably the Quickfire Rapid or Quickfire XT since they are made by a well known OEM)

Otherwise go for the Quickfire Pro or a Corsair like Joker suggested. I have a Quickfire Rapid that I got from Computer Mania ( Got the last one on that was connected to one of their PC's for R650 :D ) and I'm really impressed by the build quality. It also feels great (Cherry mx blue switches) but the blue switches are noisy.

Here's my suggestion: http://www.rebeltech.co.za/index.php?main_page=product_info&cPath=4&products_id=11185

Solid quality at a good price. Just make sure you know what switches you want ( I didn't like browns, but its all personal preference)

You could get the TK if you want backlighting too :http://www.rebeltech.co.za/index.php?main_page=product_info&cPath=4&products_id=8609

More expensive, and a slight step down in quality ( still much better than standard keyboards) for backlighting and a smaller form factor, your choice.

Yeah I like the smaller form factor. The only thing that worries me is that there is not palm rest. I'm just worried that the keyboard won't be comfortable.
