Mechanical Keyboard

I use a quickfire rapid with red switches at work. I have no issues with typing.

And I have a quickfire pro with brown switches at home for gaming.

I really cant tell a difference in terms of gaming performance between the switches. The reds are noisier though, so if your gaming space is in a shared living area, I wouldn't recommend them in that situation.

Sorry to semi-hijack the thread but I am also looking for a mechanical keyboard in the near future, what do you knowledgeable forumites say about the Gigabyte Aivia Osmium ? It's quite highly regarded on the interwebs in terms of review scores etc but anyone have any personal experience with it? My problem is that I absolutely require a full keyboard and for +- R 1350 this one seems feature packed (audio jacks, USB 3.0 port etc.).

So then any advice on this dilemma?

I'm almost like screw the whole idea of getting a small keyboard that thing looks very well build and very sturdy. The quality loks amazing. but I'm going to do some more research on that keyboard.

Online reviews say it's quite solid apart from the wrist-rest which can be a bit flimsy but for the price it seems like quite good value especially since it's a full keyboard and not TKL

Im using this and had no problems so far:

I know its probably way to big if your looking for a smaller keyboard, but just putting it out there, really sturdy board.

It's not mechanical dude. and it looks f****ng ugly

Yeah not mechanical, but I disagree on the looks.. It looks AWESOME! I wouldn't mind owning one, all those nifty lights and macros buttons is what I am after and very few/almost no mechanical keyboards have those

As I said, for a tenkeyless, a Quickfire Rapid would be the best bet, but it's not stocked in South Africa anymore :(. Otherwise I would go for the Quickfire XT, it's regarded in much better light than the Gigabyte ( the Cooler Master Quickfire Rapid and XT are basically the first thing people suggest when you say budget mech).

Still one of my fav boards and the only product Razer produces that is worth buying

Would of loved getting blue switches even though i know its noisy... sigh

So I phoned computer mania. A branch just opened near me at the grove mall and they said that they will be getting stock in the gigabyte and will have on display so i can go and get a feel for it.

For me the cyborg products just look plain ugly. I've seen the R.A.T 7 and R.A.T 9 mouse and that keyboard with my own eyes and I wouldn't like any of them. The R.A.T 7/9 is so uncomfortable so def a no go for me. I like a more clean look like the corsair, coolermaster and that gigabyte one.

The lights an everything are customizable, you can turn them all off if you want, or make them all the same color, depends on what you want really.

The macro buttons are useful if you play alot of MMO's, which I do.

What about his one.

Again looking at brown switches

I'm starting to lean towards the Quickfire XT. looks good and not to bulky. But I'm also now a bit scared going for a ten keyless keyboard because I don't travel that much so I'm leaning towards the corsair k70 but don't know if that's good and if I should go for black or silver. I also feel the corsair is more than likely to be a good quality keyboard

The TK is a decent keyboard, with backlighting as well. The K70 is also backlit and full size, but it's quite a bit more expensive. The XT is full size and probably the best quality of them all(and the cheapest), but not backlit. The choice is yours.

What about the corsair K65. That's small but no backlight.

Might I recommend the Razer Black Widow Ultimate 2013 (or 2014 if you could find one).

I believe that it uses the Blue switches, which are great for typing and gaming.
After switching to this keyboard I have not even remotely thought of buying anything but the Black Widow's.

It is however on the more expensive side of keyboards...

So far it's between the following

coolermaster quickfire xt

coolermaster quickfire TK

Corsair k65

Corsair k70

Razer BlackWidow Ultimate 2014

So this is my choices so dar and don't know what keyboard to go for so many choices. Going full keyboard the Corsair one have the best looks but I can also save a little bit of money and get the cooler master quickfire tk so I don't know.

I have some bad news about that, I was trying to source that quickfire tk with the brown switches since the end of March and it is nowhere to be found short of actually importing it oneself. One of the stores I asked said that it is unlikely that the distributor will be getting more stock in the future. Kind of upsetting as there really isn't anything else like it here. But hey if you are resourceful enough to find one do let me know. :D good luck with the pickings!

I'm not feeling like getting the corsair k70 anymore due to the keyboard having issues. After a few months some LED's will fail and you get the typing issue where sometimes keys don't register and sometimes it will register as 2 keys.
