MegaUpload Shut Down

1: Why use megaupload when ThePirateBay is free and will never be taken down.

2: I'm not supprised. The MegaUpload guys never even bothered to try and hide the fact that they were hosting copyprotected files and they never bothered to atleast try and protect themselves from this.
 
Looks like FileServe has followed after FileSonic. An attempt to download a file reveals the following message:

FileServe can only be used to download and retrieve files that you have uploaded personally. If this file belongs to you, please login to download it directly from your file manager.

what really hacks me off is that other filesharing sites have removed their sharing functionality. I have a filesonic account that is paid for every month and now im essentially paying for a dropbox? because that is essentially what filesonic now is :/

If its sharing pirated content than I'm glad MegaUploads downfall have shocked other sharing sites into action. If its sharing legit content (which I highly doubt) then I'm sure u can find it somewhere else.
 
It's quite shocking that these sites are being shut down ever before the likes of SOPA and PIPA are passed. Makes one wonder if this is a show of strength by the authorities. Are they trying to say if you don't want to give us the power officially we'll just keep on doing it as we do it now?

Remember SOPA was a preventative measure that would have crippled the internet. It has always been illegal to distribute pirated content, the authorities moved in on MegaUpload both as a show of force and as there are charges of money laundering & racketeering (organised crime). The other sites, having now seen that the authorities are taking copyright infringement seriously have decided to regulate their sites better hoping to not suffer the same fate.

Just a quick update: Kim Dotcom has been denied bail at the North Shore District Court and will be facing another month in custody after the judge suspected that he is a flight risk.

It's very interesting to see how many of the other file sharing/uploading sites are quickly ducking for cover. Probably wise until the full legal case with MegaUpload is finished and they can see where they stand. I do think it's a pity though.

What infuriates me though is that they deny the owners of MegaUpload bail. To me that is only something you do to people who are directly dangerous to society such as murderers, rapists, paedophiles, GBH offenders, etc.

Or people, like Mr Dotcom who has a german passport, and are likely to flee the country for a country that will not extradite. Especially people with deep pockets.
 
while i agree with sinshroud, omegafenix is also 100% correct though. dotcom will dissapear faster than a cup cake at a weight loss convention

Interesting theory and if it is true, the truth will eventually come out. However paying the artist even if the download is free sounds like bad business model. If you give joe public the option of paying for something and getting it free 90% will choose free. So if no-one pays where will the company get its revenue from which to pay the artist is 90%?

Which sort of fits into a very shady revenue model that paid uploaders based on the number of downloads received.

This part is very important. If your paying people who upload data for the amount of downloads you are effectively encouraging people to upload date that will be downloaded and what is more likely to be downloaded than pirated content? Which in turn is actually encouraging piracy. No wonder people are pissed, I would be.
 
I think they make their money on people actually buying a Megaupload account. So the free artist with high music downloads will obviously attract people to buy the premium account.

Using the free option for sites such as Megaupload, rapidshare etc it works and all but its not great. Plus if you know, cool i have a megaupload account, i can dl free music from uprising singers i think its a pretty cool idea. For the artist and downloader

Yep and what do people want more than movies/music/games, so they make money while the people who created the movie/music/game are cheated out of an income they earned.

Im talking specifically with the Megabox idea. The aritist would be the major ones to benifit
