Micro SD cards for pc gaming

Thread Killer Mk III
So i have been wondering, as i have a number of Micro SD cards lying around at home, whether it is possible to actually save games onto the SD card instead of the normal pc HDD and then play the games of there.

what i have seen form the interwebs is that it is possible, but that you would need a card with a good read/write speed. the Samsung Evo 256GB is apparantly a good card for this.

Has anyone here tried this?

Class 10 cards are needed (usually) for 1080p recording, so I would imagine as long as you have a USB 3 adapter, it would work alright. Heck, it would probably work better than the 5400 rpm laptop drive I use for windows on my main rig. Would certainly be less noisy.

Not sure about cost though. I have a 64gb evo in my phone, but never done any kind of benchmarks on it...

Ja thats what im reading as well. i am waiting for my Evo 256gb to be delivered form the samsung rewards store and am gong to look at trying this.

my thoughts were to load games that i dont play that often onto the SD card and remove from my current HHD to free up space for other things (as i cant add more HDD to my current Pc due to space issues) and then just plug in the SD card to play...

Sweet! If the card was from a rewards program, go for it. Not sure how long the card will last though, but if it is only used occasionally, I don't think it will be a problem. Constant writes will add up quickly on those, I would imagine.
