Microsoft hiring for next-generation console development

Yay! Can't wait to finally move on from the xbox 360, it has served me well, but i think it needs to retire.

Already?! I expected at least another 2 years before we heard "rumors" about the next generation of consoles. I wonder if Sony are also getting ready to work on the PS4...

I wonder if Microsoft is going to require an always-on Internet connection on the next generation console? But then again, the most exciting thing about it is probably going to be the new name!

Seriously, the reason that Microsoft touted the Kinect was because it was supposed to extend the life of the xbox 360 by several years. If you take into account that current cutting-edge cellphone system-on-chips are very nearly as powerful as the current generation of consoles (not to mention that they've got more RAM!) it's amazing that the xbox lasted so long. Shows you what programmers can get up to if not hindered by a crummy OS and are provided with a stable(ish) interface.

Was thinking of getting myself a slim edition, but maybe it'll be better just to wait the couple of years it'll take before the next gen comes out.

No ways! The 360 has just come into its own. We are seeing some of the best looking, best playing games to date. Even if MS is busy with the next generation its at least another 2+ years away. Maybe. I'll wait for the official release before I start packing up my box.

Agreed, the Xbox can still pull out all the stops. Look at Dead Space 2.

Amazing!!

Fair Comment, but I believe PCs are starting to take the lead. Very few games look better on the Xbox vs the PC. Correct me if i'm wrong. Also Look at battlefield 3 coming out at the end of this year, 24 player maps for 64, that sucks. Its just my personal opinion though.

Dude Battlefield 3 is multi platform.

Games are always going to look better on PC, but those couple of polygons aren't worth the continual hassle of dealing with the pc upgrades and patches.

Haha, well thats kind of my point exactly. Why would i compare pc exclusives to console exclusives? Also i have a relatively good pc the only thing i have had to upgrade in the last 3 years is my Graphics card. And yeah to me... the extra polygons are worth it. Its not a thing that makes or break it for me in a game, but it is one aspect that I judge a game on.

But that wasn't the only thing.... 40 extra people is a big difference in gameplay. Please don't get me wrong I love my xbox, its my primary gaming machine, but 5 years is long time for a technology of its nature to be around.

Gir, I have bad news, they want to keep the 360 for at least 3 years!
(They said 5, I don't think that it will be their main console for all that time)

I think they mean the life cycle of the xbox 360 will be another 5 years. Microsoft want to keep the xbox 360 going until 2015. This isn't suprising considering the ps2 is still selling even though the ps3 has been out for years. This in no way means the next generation of console will not come out before then.

I am ready for a new Xbox. The fact of the matter is that one can not linger with things such as this. No serious PC gamer will upgrade only every 5-10 years! Can't wait to hear its name and what it will look like. This is going to be the longest 2-3 years of my life.

And that last sentence: Overheating problem.

I've had 4 Xboxes now due to overheating and DVD Rom failure... FIX IT.

I've been damn lucky, I had a core xbox 360 [not even made anymore], bought a new one for the HD connection, both are still working fine.

Let just hope its not called the 720.
