Microsoft makes DirectX 11.1 exclusive to Windows 8 - tech

SSSSSUUUUURRRRRrrrRRRPRISSSSeeeeeSSSSSS. NOT.

DirectX 11.1 is part of Windows 8, just like DirectX 11 was part of Windows 7. DirectX 11 was made available for Vista (bing it), but at this point there is no plan for DirectX 11.1 to be made available on Windows 7.

Windows 8 is not that bad, its great, more efficient than Windows 7 IMO. Yeah, its not surprising Microsoft might make DX11.1 only for Windows 8.

Yoh, I just see my PC tapping out with DX11.1, I only get 10fps on DX11 with Metro 2033.

Only decent dx imho was 9 and from there it became the NFS/COD/MW/BF/ME

Not much of a surprise I suppose... but upgrading to win8 was imo a good move as my pc starts up faster and the new features although a bit weird at first I am actually liking them.

Won't make me move to Windows 8, tried and tested. Went Then format install Windows 7.

Once A game has the direct X 11.1 requirment I'll move on, but for now win7 still my choice

This is nothing new.

Windows Vista was exclusively DirectX10
Windows 7 is exclusively DirectX 11
Windows 8 being DirectX 12... oh sorry 11.1

Might be me, but there might be a pattern in their somewhere...

Also don't worry about it. You'll only ever get to use DX11.1 on like 3 games in the next 3 years since we'll still be playing console ports on PC.
