Gamers Without Internet Can Stick With Xbox 360, Says Microsoft

In an interview filmed prior to Microsoft’s E3 2013 press briefing and published on GameTrailers, Microsoft’s Don Mattrick has addressed concerns about the compulsory connectivity requirements of Xbox One.

“"Fortunately we have a product for people who aren't able to get some form of connectivity; it’s called Xbox 360,” said Mattrick.

“If you have zero access to the Internet, that is an offline device.”

Mattrick is aware of the kinds of gamers who’ll be missing out on Xbox One, and “absolutely” anticipated some blowback, but went on to reiterate he feels they have made the right call.

“

I don’t even know what it means to be on a nuclear sub but I’ve got to imagine it’s not easy to get an internet connection.

“Seriously, when I read the blogs and thought about who’s really the most impacted there was a person who said, ‘Hey I’m on a nuclear sub.’ And I don’t even know what it means to be on a nuclear sub but I’ve got to imagine it’s not easy to get an internet connection. But hey, I can empathise; if I was on a sub I’d be disappointed.

“It’s a service-based world, if you think about things and how they get better with an internet connection, that’s a design choice we’ve made. I think people will appreciate it... We did a lot of testing, a lot of consumer research and I think we made a good choice.”

Mattrick said Microsoft appreciates the passion of gamers but he believes gamers are “imagining outcomes that are worse than what we believe it’s going to be in the real world.”

I suppose that if I were to buy a XBox, I would be able to live with it. As long as it doesn't require a constant connection (in case internet goes down) and allows for connecting to the router via Wifi, I'd be ok with it. Would be better if they only required a weekly connection instead of 24 hours.

Not really applicable here, but for some reason this quote got stuck in my head....

Some French guy said:
"The peasants are starving they have no bread!"

Some Royal French Girl said:
"Let them eat cake."

*sigh*

At some stage MS needs to realize that they only have enough space in their mouth for one of their feet...... not both of them......

So that seacom issue we had not so long ago and the 2 hours of down time last week was just my imagination, I'm sold now

LOL what is he thinking??? Has this been the worst single event that Microsoft ever held? Quite possibly - maybe even topping the infamous Ballmer 'Developers developers' sweatfest.

I know, xbox has turned from being a console to a TV add-on and Microsofts only reply seems to be F@€k you, deal with it. Worst PR ever

This is what's wrong with the gaming industry and it only helps piracy flourish. MS: Let's do something that tons of consumers will hate, and let them know we just don't give a damn. Then to top it all off, we will say it with a crapload of attitude as well.

Fixed that for you. Filtering your swearing is pointless when everyone knows what you're saying anyway.

Can't believe how Microsoft is still being so arrogant about this when they've known all along that most people don't agree with always online and a lot of other rumours leading up to the announcement and E3 that turned out to be facts.
MS is saying "kiss my ass while I take your money".
A lot of people who used to be loyal supporters and fans will be giving them the finger and buying a PS4 in stead.
Maybe Don Mattrick is actually on the Sony payroll cause he makes a damn good case for the PS4.

“"Fortunately we have a product for people who aren't able to get some form of connectivity; it’s called PS4,” said Mattrick.

Fixed that for Mattrick there. Seriously, he's suggesting a different, inferior product when they have competition that offers offline play? Helloooo...

That's some bad PR right there, people are not thinking Xbox360 when they hear things like that, not a chance. It's like MS is literally starting to sell PS4s .

lol so basically screw you if you don't have an internet connection?
