Microsoft points bought directly off live

Hey guys

Been a fairly hardcore pc gamer for many years now and I just recently bought an xbox 360. I read the sticky posts with regard to purchasing MS points and having to use all these methods to getting them. However, I tried purchasing points directly off Live with my card and it worked fine. I used my local adress and everything worked fine.

Can anyone confirm if the posted methods are still relevant? Thanks!
 
It's happened to a lot of local gamers in the past, when MS catches up with them. Accounts can be subsequently unlocked, I'm told, but it's a mission. That's why most local players use prepaid cards instead.
 
Oh... Crap. Hopefully they won't lock it now. Won't be purchasing any more points directly again then. Thanks!
 
So...

I checked my bank statement today. Bought 2000 points for $33. After I checked the mspoints.co.za website I realised it wasn't such a great deal. (In addition to the potential banning.) But when I checked, I got R185 deducted from my account including charges. If it weren't for the danger of getting banned, I think that would be an insane deal. Perhaps they made a mistake?
