Microsoft SA working hard to improve local Marketplace service

It's so much easier just using either a US or UK account, then you don't have to worry about the FPB related nonsense.

One can only hope that things improve, but I think most people on this country are pretty used to hearing nice sounding promises about things to come, but that never happen. It's not just availability of games that's lousy on the local xbl, there's all sorts of media that's available in other countries that we can't get.

Please the FPB ratings were just an excuse Microsoft gave which I think is total BS. Just consider how we get every other retail game on time and all of those have to get FPB ratings, so why now does it supposedly take them years to rate games just because they are on XBLA?

Those content service agreements will be somewhat region specific unfortunately. I did have a lengthy chat with Microsoft and they hinted at some interesting plans for the local service, but are not ready to official say anything.

I don't inderstand why they don't have a system where everything is rated 18, and if you want a lower rating you can go through the FPB to have it lowered. Indie titles on xbox live are all rated 18, why cant we just do the same.

They are never ready, that is the problem. Xbox Live took 4years to land on our shores so why is it that they only looked at getting the games here AFTER the fact, they had 4 years to push the games through the ratings board so they could have been up to date when it was officially launched. Instead they launched the service with I think it was something like 10 games. By the time they get their act together we'll be on the next generation of consoles and the cycle with start anew since they will obviously not bother to plan for that either.

Microsoft has zero goodwill when it comes to anything Xbox, especially in this country.

Good point, it's not like they can rate it any higher than 18

The FPB wants their cut ^_^

Publishers or their local representatives, (and in the case of self-published indies, the developers themselves) have to pay the fee for having their game rated.

Anyway, as discussed in the article, Microsoft SA is working on a system to speed up this process because it is just as frustrating for them as it is for gamers.

Why do we need to committee that decides for us what we are permitted to play, watch, or read?
Are we not deemed fit to make such decisions ourselves?

If you are younger than 18, are you likely to be earning sufficient money to be buying games?
What about the parents? Do they have no idea of what their children are doing?
I will concede that some teenagers are more mature/intelligent than others, and quite capable of thinking for themselves.

My parents never censored anything I read, watched or played....and I haven't turned out too badly.

Rating are there so parents can make a decision without the need to have a thorough knowledge of the content. I have nothing against ratings, I actually support them. I generally don't support bans of any type of content as I feel that now dictates content to adults which is just silly (here's looking at you Australia and Germany).

So your parents would have been fine with you watching something like Basic Instinct, Boogie Nights or Silence of the Lambs as a 12year old?
