Microsoft to Pull Complete Reversal on Xbox One DRM Policies

Well now that is a surprise, at least it shows big companies still have some wisdom left. in any case i said this before they the dumped the drm and it still stands most of the people complaining about the console will still probably end up buying it.

thats the problem we have as consumers....im not happy about this, but im going to buy it anyway. If only we could rally together and boycott things once in a while like drm in games etc...

I mean if a petition can get a game like dark souls ported im sure the hive mind could accomplish much if harnessed for good.

Now someone go start a website called hiv3-m1nd and we do just that.

Well then Microsoft, so sticking to your guns are a thing of the past now...

I've been one of those guys that was actually on Xbone's side since the start. I mean, my favourite platform for gaming, PC, has an environment where disc based gaming is more or less a thing of the past, and I'm ok with that. I read a very interesting article on IGN yesterday that did the whole Xbox vs. Steam thing, and it made sense. The problem wasn't that I have to be connected to the net once in a day at least. The problem wasn't that I can't but disc based games anymore. The problem was that I don't have ownership of my game; a problem I am happy to forget about when playing on Steam.

So in a way I was really hoping Xbox will do for the console community what Steam has done for the PC, and now they come and pull THIS!! I mean come on! If you've got an idea, and to an extent it makes sense, and hasn't even been tested in the real world yet, go with it before you just give in and roll over.

So I don't really see this as a victory, and I certainly don't like the image Xbox is creating for themselves. I will probably remain a true Xbox fanboy, but they seriously need to get their act together, and formulate a bloody plan for the future. One with direction and focus. One they will bloody follow-up on and commit to. And if they keep on changing their minds to follow the masses, I might just stop supporting them.

I play 3/4 of my games on a console.

so i'm not that big about having the best graphics there is :)

But going from PS2 with OLD tube TV to PS3 on Old TV to PS3 on LCD TV each time i noticed a big improvement.

So i bet there will be another improvement when going to ps4 or XBone - the systems are nearly identical so there should not be a big difference.

But to get back to the topic......
this is a good start for MS to try and get back some support.

Goin from an old tv to an HD LCD is like a mini upgrade on its own!

The difference is that steam has made it clear from the get go that their focus is the gamer. So the ability to sell games, linux support, the steam box all show this. What has Xbox shown?

You don't remember the early days of Steam do you? It was widely loathed when it first came out. I bought HL2 almost as soon as it was released, and then spent a day of agony waiting for Steam to update before I could even play it. It took quite a long time for it to get to where it is now; and it's clear that Valve are still just experimenting with stuff. Now sure it's a great system but it sort of evolved that way.

Yes indeed. Xbox failed dismally in their pitch to their core user group. This will someday become a classic business case study on how NOT to promote your new products to a vast and very vocal user group. They targeted the wrong people from the start. Who bloody well cares about TV and....

...okay let me just stop there before I ramble off point...

I do remember those days, but think of it this way the xbox and steam have kinda been out about the same time which has shown more effort towards the community?

HAHA ye, years from now ppl will be playing the videos and showing the writes in universities around the world showing how not to piss off ur paying public. I still think there is something lurking under the surface for both PS4 and Xbox, which will only rear its head after the sales start

The consumer doesn't win..

Honestly, how long do you think those changes will take to implement on programming and testing? And the release date wasn't changed.
It's also safe to assume that the only changes to be made now, so close to shipping is polishing the product.

Microsoft planned all this from the beginning.

Apparently, according to Microsoft, they always planned to ship a Day One patch. They state that the hardware and software development are on different schedules (how's THAT for inefficiency). So they will just "add" these new "features" to the patch that you HAVE to download on day one

Now i cant use my bane Gif anymore :(

Knowing that MS have built the console around this policy, and are only ditching it because their initial pre-order numbers are abysmal, I still wouldn't even consider buying their new console.

At the core, MS still want this stupid DRM process, and who knows, they might slowly add some of those restrictions back in via scheduled updates.

I'll stick with the more honest, and better priced PS4.

I'm sorry but frankly, the PS4 is only more honest in the sense that they made a huge and very calculated post-hoc hullabaloo about used games and DRM. The whole thing is a PR game and it's blown out of proportion. Better priced, sure.

Yes sony is very honest even when they got hacked last year and 90 million user credit card accounts got exposed
