Microsoft to Raise Xbox Live Subscription Fees in November

what a fucking laugh! just as we get local they hike the prices...

good comedy MS real funny move eh?

Except it will, because all current local Box Live users are paying for Xbox Live UK or US?

According to the information in the link you quoted, only the US accounts, and 1 month UK subs will have any increases. So for UK based accounts, the 3 and 12 month subs are not affected. Surely these are the most used XBL accounts for SA Xbox gamers. And if they are not, they should be. :)

EDIT : I think the only reason for this price change is to unscew the difference between the US and UK costs of XBL that have been there since it's launch. In ZAR the US and UK accounts wil now cost roughly the same, which is surely sensible.

Actually back in the day (i.e. before the local launch) most local XBL users created US accounts, simply because the subscription cost and mspoints were cheaper. These days, considering that subscription cards are universal more people are using UK accounts. UK Points are still more expensive than US points afaik.

Exactly my point I made in my post just edited above.

Chickens coming home to roost and all that. :)

Well, all my local friends on XBL, myself included, have registered US accounts. I buy my points from MSPoints.co.za, so I guess it remains to be seen how their prices are affected. Of course, this will all be resolved if MS just makes it possible for me to haul my account across to SA Xbox Live in November.

I'm in the same boat. Would be cool if we could.

I'm still in two minds whether or not I should register for XBL gold 1-year subs.

I see. :| But as Strifehart noted above: I also noticed that most online card shops (I use http://www.live-codes.com/) are selling the "worldwide" subscription cards.

So all should still be swell, I reckon...? The M$ points are not changing in price as I understand.

Oh, and AMEN to the SAXBL. :)

Seems as though many of the local suppliers wont be getting new pre-paid card until the price hike occurs, evopoint.co.za confirmed this, I assume the other suppliers are in the same boat.
