Warner Bros acquired the rights.
Minecraft, one of the hottest video game franchises in the market today, is going to be made into a major motion picture. Warner Bros just acquired the rights to the wildly popular game from Swedish indie developer Mojang AB (Mojang means “gadget” in Swedish). The property is already getting huge interest from writers and filmmakers and sources say that Warners is putting a live-action version together. Lego producer Roy Lee is handling for the studio via his Vertigo Entertainment.
I wonder what the plot is gonna be about.

They'll make a movie out of anything these days. I suppose the one advantage is that there's no established storyline that they have to keep in mind so it's an open canvas for the screenwriters.

I guess we won't need to wait for the BluRay version if this, as it's gonna be shot in 240SD

Live action eh? The main defining characteristic of Minecraft is it's pixelated graphics. No idea how they're going to make a live action version :/

So 2 hours of no talking, sounds legit

The evolution of the silent film.... Dum dum dum DAAAAAA.... :p

And I was just thinking, they're bringing silent movies back :p

I have not yet played Minecraft, but look at how they have made the Lego Movie. I think its completely doable.

Lego is CGI though so it resembles its source material. The article says they're putting together a live-action version, so I just don't know how they are going to do that since everyone associates Minecraft with its blocky graphics.

Oooh I missed the live-action part. I immediately jumped to Lego when I saw the title.

I think that a large part of the films budget will be in purchasing thousands upon thousands of cardboard boxes :D

They did it with the upcoming Need For Speed movie, I'm pretty much convinced it's just going to be a Fast and Furious spinoff :p like the games don't even really have any kind of storyline or even something that makes them super unique, they're just racing games.

Need for speed movie I never knew about this abomination my God Hollywood has truly lost it.

Kind of off topic; but I saw this poor 10 year old being bought Minecraft by his mom at BT games today:D
