Hi guys

I need some input about a small upgrade im doing. Im getting a second hand Phenom II x4 955
and a Asus M4A88TD-M or another link. I need some input as to what ram will work best with this setup.

1> 1600? 1333? 2x 2gb? 1x4gb?

Ive got my eyes on this ram. Maybe 2x 4gb of these sticks or is 2x 2gb good enough? as you probably
noticed this is a budget gaming setup. This setup is mainly for Battlefield 3

On that mobo don't go over 1333 as the memory controller is set at 1333. It can, but not recommended in the long run. You wont notice a performance difference anyway between 1333 and 1600. Only in benchmarks, but it will be marginal.

If you plan to upgrade to 8GB shortly, take 1x4Gb, but if you are going to stay at 4Gb for a while, take 2x2Gb to run the modules in dual channel mode (unganged) , there is a slight performance difference between dual channel and single channel mode. The RAM you want to buy is fine. Gaming RAM is overrated.

GL though. The 955 is a good chip. I recommend an aftermarket cooler for that CPU, have a look at the Coolermaster Hyper212+ >> good bang for buck.

thanks, I think Il go for the 4gb option and upgrade to 8gb later

I have not decided what graphics card Im getting yet, but so far, will this
system run battlefield 3? Most likely getting a GTX460 or similar. At 1920x1080 resolution

Your system is fine, I do however recommend an ATI GPU. Look at the 6870. Good performance for the price. If you want to get an nVidia card, look at the 560 instead if you can.

Okay So far im getting the following

Phenom II x4 955
Asus M4A88TD-M
Adata 2x 2gb 1333mhz (yeah I was supposed to get the above ram but got this at a killer price)
HD4850 512mb (what i had already)
Vantec ion 600w (what i had already)

as you can see Gfx is the next step and a heatsink. A friend of mine was telling me about Hybrid Crossfire, anyone tried this out?
