Mirror's Edge Catalyst is 'Not a Sequel', DICE Says

The Mirror's Edge website has been updated to confirm that the next game will indeed be called Catalyst, after the name leaked yesterday.

Senior producer Sara Jansson wrote an update on the site declaring that "This is not a sequel, this is not Mirror's Edge 2." Based on the E3 2013 trailer it isn't too surprising that the game follow's heroine Faith's earlier years.

Jansson commented:

"Mirror’s Edge has always had a special place in the hearts of all of us at DICE. The first game had a lot of promise. It was unlike anything else in terms of the gameplay and style — it had a unique soul. But as much as we loved that game, we knew it could be more. So that’s what we have set out to do as we introduce Mirror’s Edge to a new generation.

"The team has spent a lot of time re-evaluating every aspect of the game and making it a new experience. This is not a sequel, this is not Mirror's Edge 2. We have landed on a vision that honors the first game — pushing the boundaries of first person movement and diving deeper into the story behind our heroine Faith — but also brings a lot of great new, interesting gameplay and features to the experience for our players."

Jansson confirmed that the game will be shown off next week at E3. Mirror's Edge Catalyst will be released during the first quarter of 2016, meaning no later than March 31st, 2016.

So if it's not a sequel and it involves "diving deeper into the story behind our heroine Faith", does that mean it's a prequel?

Something that slightly annoys me is prequels being released after the main title was released, especially if the main title was released a good couple of generations ago.

They've actually stated in the past it's actually a reboot. So basically the original game never happened.
